Gamers were waiting a long time for the new Elder Scrolls adventure, and they’ve come out in droves around the globe to make the role-playing game a blockbuster success. Bethesda Softworks has sold over 5.17 million copies of Skyrim since launch around the world, according to VGChartz. Bethesda shipped 7 million copies of the title at launch and sold over 3.4 million copies in its first 48 hours at retail. Gamers are still picking up new copies of the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 RPG, which is also expected to be a big Christmas gift this holiday.

If you haven't played The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim yet, you need to stop whatever you're doing, go snag a copy, and see what it's like to gloriously kill a dragon with a fireball -- or sword or whatever.  Bethesda's long-awaited sequel more than lives up to the hype, and provides hours worth of gameplay.  What's more, a savvy YouTube user has found a way to get the PC version of the game to work with...Kinect?  Yep.

With 2012 just around the corner, one of the most-anticipated games of next year is BioWare’s Mass Effect 3. The Electronic Arts game adds multiplayer support and Kinect voice support to the role-playing gameplay experience. It also brings an end to the original trilogy story that has captivated fans. The developer talks about what gamers can expect in the next Mass Effect adventure in this exclusive video interview below.

The hit Comedy Central series South Park hasn't always found the greatest of success in video games.  Acclaim's barrage of licensed games (Chef's Luv Shack, along with a kart racing game and a shooter) turned out to be real stinkers, to the point that the show's creators ragged on them.  There has been a turnaround as of late, however.  Microsoft produced an XBLA strategy game, Let's Go Tower Defense Play, that fared pretty well, and a platforming game, Tenorman's Revenge, is due for release next year.  But THQ and Obsidian are taking the series one step further with a full-blown RPG.

The publisher has partnered with Ubisoft to bring Ezio Auditore’s Assassin's Creed Revelations costume into the world of Final Fantasy XIII-2. Legendary Entertainment (The Dark Knight Rises) is developing several videogame projects, including WarCraft based on Blizzard Entertainment’s game franchise and Mass Effect based on BioWare’s franchise. The producers of the Mass Effect movie were at San Diego Comic-Con this year. They didn’t have time to answer all of the fan questions at the panel, so they posted the below questions on their Web site. Filmmakers are working with Mass Effect creator Casey Hudson on the project, which is being written by Mark Protosevich (Thor).

When The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion came out years ago, it addicted a different kind of role-playing adventurer than the ones that would normally be playing, say, the Final Fantasy games.  Rather than working through a tactical-style battle, you would simply venture forward in a tormented world, battling enemies using a variety of weapons, skills, spells and other goods to stay alive – all from a first-person perspective.  It truly is a splendid game, and one that would pave the way for an even better sequel.  You might want to set some time aside for this gem – and I don’t mean a mere couple of hours.

Nintendo has launched the latest epic from acclaimed developer Shigeru Miyamoto with the Wii-exclusive The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. It’s a sweeping adventure that is aimed at all players and one that even the most stalwart critics have hailed as a perfect role-playing adventure.

LOS ANGELES -- Riot Games today announced that over four million people play League of Legends on a daily basis, a 280% increase since Riot Games last announced the size of its League of Legends community in July 2011. With 11.5 million active monthly players and peak concurrency reaching 1.3 million, League of Legends enters its second competitive season as one of the top five PC games in North America and Europe with a registered player base of over 30 million worldwide. “It’s staggering to think about the fact that over a billion games of League of Legends have been played since launch,” said Marc Merrill, co-founder and President of Riot Games. “In 2012, we intend to deliver even more for our growing audience.”

In this day and age, it's nice to have some extra goodies to pass around in the game industry, whether it's a collectible figure with an Uncharted 3: Collector's Edition, a Modern Warfare 3 Hardened Edition (c'mon, you want it) or a Gears of War 3 Marcus Fenix statue.  But sometimes the hardware itself takes precedence, especially if it's a limited edition design.  And lucky Nintendo fans will be getting that in Europe come November 25th.

It’s a strange time for the Lord of the Rings franchise. The hype for the Hobbit film - due in December 2012 after a miraculously even number of legal U-turns - hasn’t started bubbling yet, and the last film of Peter Jackson’s trilogy was in 2003. Despite the fact that Lord of the Rings might not be on the mind of many consumers, Snowblind Studios - the developers that brought you Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance- have delivered a three-player action RPG set and steeped in Tolkien’s universe.

The player must defeat a dragon god who is prophesized to destroy the world. The open world gameplay of the Elder Scrolls series has been pushed to new levels of interactivity thanks to a brand new game engine.
