Why do I need to register?

Registration will enable you to sign up for free email newsletters, comment or blog on Telegraph.co.uk, and access our subscriber website. In future, you will be able to use your profile as a single sign-on for all Telegraph services, including crosswords and competitions.

Do I have to pay to register?

No. Registration is free and takes only a few minutes.

How do I register?

Click on “Register” in the top righthand corner of every page on Telegraph.co.uk, then enter your name and your email address.

Why do I have to verify my account?

Your privacy is important to us. We want to make sure that nobody is registering your details without you knowing about it. We ask you to verify your registration by sending you an email and asking you to click on a link within it. This helps to ensure that you receive the services you request.

How will you use my data and what will you do with my details?

We take great care to ensure that your private data is protected and used only in ways in which you want it to be used. We are proud of our Privacy Policy and we encourage you to read it. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please email data.protect@telegraph.co.uk

How do I change the details I have given you?

When you are logged in to Telegraph.co.uk, click the link to your name in the top righthand corner of any page. This will take you to a secure page where you can amend your personal details, email address, and password. You can also update the Telegraph products and services you subscribe to.

I have forgotten my password, how do I log in?

Click the “Login” link in the top righthand corner of every page on Telegraph.co.uk. This will take you to a page in which you can click on a “Forgotten password?’ link. You can then confirm your email address and ask for a new password to be sent to you by email.

What are Telegraph.co.uk newsletters?

Telegraph.co.uk can bring you all the news, analysis and features that you want, straight to your inbox. All you have to do is tell us which subject or subjects you are interested in and we will send you free newsletters that are tailored to your interests.

Can I change the newsletters I receive?

Yes. You can sign up for as many Telegraph.co.uk emails as you like. Take a look at all the subjects we cover and choose which ones you want by ticking the “Subscribe” boxes. If you change your mind, you can click on “Cancel” – or you can click on the “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom of every newsletter we send out.

How do I register to comment on Telegraph.co.uk?

Once you have registered with Telegraph.co.uk you will see the option to sign up for My Telegraph on your profile page. Simply click on the link and choose a screen name which will be displayed publicly next to your comments. You will then see the option to leave a comment at the top of all open comment threads on Telegraph.co.uk. This account will also give you a profile in My Telegraph, our online reader community, which collects all of your contributions in one place and gives every reader the chance to set up their own blog. Why do you require readers to register to comment? Doesn't this restrict freedom of speech?

Freedom of speech is very important to us and we know that our readers value it very highly too. However, this does not mean that we can drop all restrictions and registration helps us to keep discussions legal and free from spam.
