International Health Regulations (IHR)

International Health Regulations (2005)

With the support of WHO, the 194 States Parties to the International Health Regulations (IHR) have been implementing these global rules to enhance national, regional and global public health security. Key milestones for the countries include the assessment of their surveillance and response capacities and the development and implementation of plans of action to ensure that these core capacities are functioning by 2012.

External Review of Pandemic Response

The assessment of the global response to the pandemic H1N1 was in 2010 conducted by the International Health Regulations Review Committee, a committee of experts with a broad mix of scientific expertise and practical experience in public health. The members were some of the leading experts in the world in their respective fields.

IHR implementation course

The objectives of this course are to strengthen critical human resources engaged to set-up and manage systems for securing global public health under the IHR implementation framework, and to develop communication capacities for efficient international collaboration. This on-the-job training (in English) targets public health professionals, mainly belonging to National IHR Focal Points (NFP), but also professionals from other related sectors from national or international organizations, in the public and private sectors.
