It's a top week for telly - in particular, fans of quality drama are in for a treat! Shane Meadows returns to television with the festive (but far from cheery) This Is England '88, while All Creatures Great and Small prequel Young James Herriot kicks off its three-part run just as series two of The Killing draws to a close.

That aside, there's some terrific comedy and entertainment on offer too. Read on to discover more about what's coming up over the next seven days...

This Is England '88: Tuesday at 10pm on Channel 4
It's back! After the brilliant movie and excellent (if downright harrowing) This Is England '86, Lol, Woody and the gang return for a festive three-part series, airing on consecutive nights this week. Having seen the first episode, Tube Talk can confirm that the show is on top form once again, as the characters deal with the fallout from 1986. But, of course, there's an awful lot of humour too. This is the definition of must-watch television - by turns funny, moving, heartwarming and terrifying.

British Comedy Awards: Friday at 9pm on Channel 4
The great and good of British comedy once again unite at London's Fountain Studios for a live two-hour broadcast of the Comedy Awards, hosted as usual by Jonathan Ross. Jack Whitehall, David Mitchell, Graham Norton, Jo Brand and Sarah Millican are among those up for an award. Last year, Miranda Hart reigned supreme - will the queen of pratfalls triumph once more? And which hot new comics will be named as 2011's male and female 'Breakthrough Artist'? Tune in on Friday to find out. The British Comedy Awards: Live Lock-In follows at 11.05pm on E4.

Strictly Come Dancing: Saturday at 7pm on BBC One
It's time to crown your winner! After weeks of dancing, sequins and naughty illegal lifts, it's finally time for someone to raise the Glitterball Trophy. But who will it be? Well, it's off to beautiful Blackpool Tower Ballroom for the finalists to give it their best shot... and what's more, the results follow at 9.05pm (complete with performance from Jessie J) so you don't even have to wait until Sunday to find out who's victorious. You can even watch it in 3D if you have the right telly, or go to watch it in cinemas around the country! Keep dancing...

The Killing: Saturday at 9pm on BBC Four
The second series of The Killing comes to a close this week. Sarah Lund's second on-screen investigation has been just as gripping as the first, but we have to question BBC Four's decision to air two episodes each week. We love a crime double-bill as much as anyone, but with just ten episodes this time round, The Killing II has flown past in just five weeks! We'd suggest you savour these final two instalments - a third (and sadly final) Killing isn't due to air in Denmark until late September 2012.

Young James Herriot: Saturday at 9pm on BBC One
Classic veterinary drama All Creatures Great and Small was a monster hit for the BBC back in the day, running from 1978 to 1990. No doubt the Beeb is hoping to replicate that show's success with new prequel Young James Herriot, which charts the title character's early days as a student in Glasgow. The Fades star Iain DeCaestecker assumes the role of Herriot, originally made famous by Christopher Timothy, in this gentle three-part period drama. Amy Manson, Ben Lloyd-Hughes, Gary Lewis and Tony Curran also star.
