Playlist: 10 tracks you need to hear

Published Monday, Dec 12 2011, 15:25 GMT | By Robert Copsey and Lewis Corner | 49 comments
Listen to our ten favourite tracks below, including Pink, Goldfrapp, Miike Snow and Leona Lewis.

Pink: 'Bridge Of Light'
Despite having well and truly worn out last year's Greatest Hits...So Far!!!, we'd prepared ourselves for an extended wait for any new Pink material. So as you can imagine, we were rather pleased when we spotted that she'd recorded a song for Happy Feet II, where she also voices the role of Gloria. Better yet, it's a stadium-ready torch ballad that only she knows how. RC

Miike Snow: 'Devil's Work'
The first teaser to be lifted from Miike Snow's second studio album, 'Devil's Work' mixes house piano riffs with strident military beats. Combined with Andrew Wyatt's dulcet tones, the track is a promising insight into what we can expect from the Swedish indie-pop act in 2012. LC

Leona Lewis: 'Hurt'
For music purists out there, the very thought of a talent show winner covering Nine Inch Nails/Johnny Cash's 'Hurt' is distressing. But this is not any old X Factor champ; it's Leona Lewis. Once again the show's true success story lends her emotive vocal and soaring falsetto to produce a melancholic and heart-wrenching rendition of an already harrowing classic. LC

I Am Camera: 'Commuter Love'
You may remember that we featured synth-pop duo I Am Camera and their first teaser track 'Endless Storm' back in August. Their latest song - about falling in love on the Tube - is another smoky electro number with a moody vocal and bassline fit for the grimy basements of East London's trendiest establishments. Watch the official music video below: RC

Little Mix: 'Cannonball'
Little Mix have well and truly broken the 'X Factor girlband curse'. After storming to victory over the weekend, the ladies have been hailed as one of the first girl groups with four lead singers - and their winner's single backs that claim. A pop-lite version of Damien Rice's 'Cannonball' allows the four-piece to showcase their strong vocals along with their smooth harmonies. LC

Paramore: 'In The Morning'
Fulfilling their promise of three new singles by Christmas, Paramore have released the final cut from their Singles Club project titled 'In The Mourning'. The track sees the band channel a country style while singing of a lost loved one. The single can only be downloaded via the group's official website. LC

Gabrielle Aplin: 'Home'
19 year-old Garbrielle Aplin has already bothered the iTunes album charts with her self-released EPs 'Acoustic' and 'Never Fade', and it's only a matter of time before she's snapped up by a major label. 'Home' - a taster of what to expect from her debut album next year - is a raw, folk-pop number with a touch of the Ed Sheeran's about it. Her new EP of the same name is available to pre-order now: RC

Goldfrapp: 'Yellow Halo'
After 12 years in the business, the time couldn't be riper for Goldfrapp to remind us all of their brilliant back catalogue. Fronting The Singles album next year is 'Yellow Halo'; an airy, uplifting and hypnotic number that sits nicely alongside their previous hits. Watch the official music video below: RC

FOE: 'Cold Hard Rock'
Critics have labeled the rising star's music as "sleaze-punk" and "grunge-pop", and judging by the organs, jangling bells and head-banging chorus on her forthcoming single 'Cold Hard Rock', they couldn't have been more spot-on. Look out for the swimming pool-themed music video ahead of the track's release on January 9. RC

Pnau: 'Unite Us'
The third cut from Pnau's second album Soft Universe, 'Unite Us' is an electro-pop anthem of melodious chants and a rousing mix of synths and guitars. The Australian duo's latest record stormed the charts in their homeland and they hope to do the same in the UK when the album is released here in 2012. LC
