For all of those who were doubting it, rest assured: Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker is very much a true MGS... but most importantly a true game! The saga's DNA is everywhere in this title, and it's been expanded so much, that this adventure gets a distinctive taste of its own. Less interactive movie, and more game than ever, there are so many modes, bonuses, and other elements to unlock as you play that it's almost unbelievable. The Monster Hunter's influence is clear, and it's a blessing for Kojima's game. To the point that between the management of your Mother Base, your equipment, and your troops, the game even becomes addictive for other things than its solo campaign. No doubt, this is a major episode in the series, for its overwhelming content, its level of quality, and the power of its story. And the platform it has been released on as well : a strong signal sent to the industry, that portable devices are becoming more and more important, from Japan to our part of the world.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 strikes hard. Really hard. Even those who completed the first one will rejoice when they discover every level. The feeling of a 1.5 version quickly fades when placed in front of such ingenuity, and coating mastery. A lesson to be remembered. For those who didn't try the original, the shock will be even harder, as SMG2 easily ranks as one of the best platform games ever made. It's accessible, with a well-thought in-game help system if they happen to stumble on a particular level, and simply put every single awe-inducing gameplay mechanic could spawn an entire game of its own. To sum it up, underneath an apparent lack of freshness, it's quite the contrary that's hidden. An orgy of fun to be enjoyed unfettered!

It's impossible not to be charmed by such a little gem. Everbody's Tennis Portable is easily the best portable tennis game out there, striking the perfect balance between accessibility and realism. The European version also gained a significant number of improvements over the Japanese one. It's a must have for all tennis fans.

Blessed by its magnificent 2D, black and white visuals, Limbo immediately captures. But then, controller in hands, the player will quickly realize it also delivers major gameplay scenes. The journey may be a relatively short one (half a dozen hours top), but who cares : it's a unique, powerful one. You will forget reality and dive into an evanescent dream, deliciously tormented. Simple. Bewitching. Memorable. Thanks.

Dragon Quest IX delivers on its promises. The old school gameplay mechanics, unchanged for the most part, really shine in a multiplayer mode that is surprisingly comfy and accessible. Hardened players will probably grunt at the easier 10 or so hours of the beginning, which doesn't really prompt for any strategic thinking. But the high production values and the richness of content are reason enough to enjoy the dozens of gameplay hours, solo, or otherwise.

StarCraft II, as expected, is an evolution rather than a revolution of the original. True to its roots, the game doesn't lose itself by trying to reinvent a formula that has proven itself (and still is, actually). StarCraft II shines thanks to a flawless production, fantastic gameplay with loads of of little additions and improvements, and an overhaul of its multiplayer side. With a very demanding high-level gameplay but still very accessible to newbies thanks to its casual mode and matchmaking feature, the latest Blizzard baby is another demonstration of the old saying: old friends are the best. Can't wait for the follow-up!

Exploiting the PSP capabilities nicely, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep offers a long ride, with the three crossing adventures of its three heroes, and those new, subtle innovations integrated in the gameplay (especially alchemy and the fury moves). This episode is an enchanting one, with a beautiful atmosphere and dynamic gameplay... even though you need need to be in touch with the child within yourself to fully appreciate it.

Few are the areas where Halo : Reach doesn't benefit from Bungie's obvious intention to deliver a definitive farewell episode. Aside from french voices and music that are simply good (but not as fantastic as one would hope every single aspect to be), and new covenant weapons slightly off when used in the solo campaign, Reach delivers a brilliant solo experience. The story may not be surprising, but it's a well told one. Reach remains awe-inspiring for its implementation, scope, diversity and richness. Those who will have to carry on the flame have a high bar set there for them to surpass.

Even though there are some mistakes here and there (let's say it's youth related), F1 2010 probably remains one of the best F1 racing games ever. It's reminiscent of the old Formula One on the original PlayStation, and even better, of the legendary F1 '97. But a thousand times more comprehensive and realistic. Its career mode grants it an enormous playtime expectancy, and racing over the internet or against the clock is a delight best served with long evenings to fully enjoy it. Well, that's it : F1 2010... what else ?

Firaxis succeeded. Easy to handle even for the newcomer, but still as rich as ever with multiple gameplay systems to play with, Civilization V will easily seduce the strategy-savvy. The lack of religions will maybe be covered in a future expansion, but even as is, it's a must-have in the genre. Plan your sleepless nights far ahead, and get a recent enough PC to handle it. Yup : this, too, is called evolution.

I wasn't a big fan of the series before, but I must confess : this Trackmania Wii simply blew me away, and really hooked me back up with this special type of racing game. The quality of this game is noticeable in almost every aspect of it, and it's easy to get addicted. With its particularly long solo mode, its build-it-yourself aspects, and its nice online play functionality, it seems that Trackmania Wii will become a favorite for many gamers. It's already one for me!

FIFA 11 is huge. Filled with licenses and data, amazing production-wise, with photo-realistic visuals and incredibly truthful animations, EA's simulation delivers a convincing gameplay paired with a thrilling atmosphere. From the rumbling of its stadiums to the hit music of its menus, this 2011 edition fills us with joy, as it's surprisingly able to innovate yet again, despite the franchise already being the frontrunner. Praise the 11 versus 11 online play with the ability to play as the goalkeeper. You're more of a manager. The career mode is there for you. Add several subtle additions here and there, and this year yet again, we'll have to call it "the king FIFA". And if the way EA Canada has paved up until now is any indication, it seems the throne isn't ready to waver.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is a profoundly generous action-adventure game. Filled with content, gifts for fans of the series, but for video game lovers as well. It's full of nods to other games and movies, rich with a large variety of gameplays and lush environments... blessed with an overall Castlevania feel, which is a consistent mark of respect for its forebears. Kudos to Mercury Steam. Despite some rare issues with some gameplay tunings, we can only hope for them to meet the success they deserve as we'd welcome a follow-up!

If you have not played the game since its release, Heavy Rain Move Edition is the perfect opportunity to do so. Its price is reduced and it contains all the released bonuses (DLC, soundtrack, PS3 themes) in addition to an all new 45' long making-of video. However, the PS Move controls (the main new feature) are very disappointing... But nothing prevents you to take your trusted Dual Shock back, and discover a truly exceptional game.

If you haven't yet understood that NBA 2K11 is THE most impressive team sport game of the moment, there's nothing more I can do for you. It's more comprehensive than ever; more refined in terms of atmosphere, animations, possibilities; to sum it up, we had never seen that before. The added bonus of Michael Jordan being included in the game is the cherry on the cake. You need this basket simulator.

There are but a few ways to play with food, which are so fun, that we'd gladly welcome some kind of extra meat-based dessert coming from Team Meat. Addictive, funny, perfectly balanced, Super Meat Boy is all the way up there standing side by side with a famous plumber, or a well-known hero with no arms nor legs, in the world of the platformers. A game we'd prompt you to enjoy with friends on your couch, potato chips on the table, and a couple of bottles to drink from, so they can laugh at your demise, or dare to pick up the controller for you to do the same. Meat's yummy!

Congrats Treyarch, you passed the test. Black Ops still has some technical flaws (some erratic scripts), but it doesn't lack ambition, variety, nor freshness. Its solo campaign boasts a good scenario, and its multiplayer is as comprehensive and solid as ever, while changing some basic systems for the better and introducing soon-to-be-cult new modes, as well as community features one could only find in the latest Halo iterations before. There may be ways to improve it yet again, but the 2010 CoD delivers on its promise - we can't say anymore that Treyarch's Call of Dutys don't measure up.

If your bank account can withstand the investment for those pro instruments, or even if you want to keep playing the old way, Rock Band 3 is now the new benchmark of music games for groups. The Keyboard is a true bonus, especially in pro mode, and the Pro Guitar a real challenge for die hard gamers. Still blessed with its spot-on gameplay, as a videogame, it is beyond reproach and will entertain you for hours. But in terms of music teaching tool, we're not quite there yet. Only time will tell if the public will follow, and if the pro mode will indeed lead to new vocations, like the drums addition in the original Rock Band did. But Harmonix made progress and invested in innovation, while its competitors laze, and one may only applaud for that.

When DICE buffs up the formidable war machine that is Battlefield Bad Company 2, their star multiplayer franchise, they use every last bit of cultural and movie folklore surrounding this cruel and well-covered conflict. Polished to the extreme, Vietnam enhances all the more the fun it gives us, and those typical moments of bravery.

If the Sandbox idea exists in many games, LittleBigPlanet 2 goes far beyond, almost inventing a new genre we could call "toybox". The user can become a true game designer, and draw inspiration from the really nice Story mode and the multiplayer mini-games, all the way up to designing the proverbial cherry on the cake.

Anticipation for Dead Space 2 was especially high. It could have gone to the dark side, forgetting about those moments when the tension rises... and nothing is clearly shown. But for the best, it was able to keep its soul intact. And by raising the bar in all aspects (production values, horror, pace), it appears as the definitive master of the survival/horror genre.

This new Black & White pair of Pokémon games take the necessary and welcome step further in evolving the series. The gameplay's more dynamic thanks to the combat in threes, 3D integration is perfect, new animations for the little animals are welcomed. Communications and trading are easier than ever thanks to new online features. And since the dialogs are better written, and often funny... No doubt remains, Black & White are able to paint new, revived colors on the famous licence!
