Daytona USA coming to XBLA

Classic Sega Arcade racer only 800MP

How's this for an affordable second hand car? The official best racing game of all time (according to Mike) is making its Xbox Live Arcade debut for the measly price of 800MP (£6.80), which is less than the amount we've spent on the arcade version in our time. What's more you don't have to wait long to play it.

The game's arriving in mere weeks, hitting the Game Marketplace on October 26th. Just in time for the end of the NASCAR season, we're sure you're delighted to hear.

Naturally it wouldn't be Daytona without eight player multiplayer and that's present and correct with Xbox Live support. Elsewhere there's a Karaoke Mode that allows you to sing along to the classic soft rock theme as you tool around in your car and support for all the various steering wheels on the Xbox 360.

As the trailer shows, it's had some graphical spit and polish, with the arcade's pop-in fixed and new widescreen, high def visuals.

Could this be the start of AM2's glorious back catalogue making its way onto Xbox Live? Which of this little list would you like to see next? Let us know in the comments.

  1. I think I can safely say that of all the AM2 games, we're all waiting with baited breath for Dynamite Düx, and nothing else.

  2. It is a classic game, but without the full driving wheel and pedals it just wouldn't feel right somehow.

Ghost Squad on the Wii was classic too: "OH NO! We need to save Mr Steve Macoy!"

Virtua Racing was good though, and presumably Space Harrier is already available on the retro arcade?

  3. Ha, I used to play loads of the Atari ST port of Dynamite Dux.

Not an AM2 game according to Wiki, but does anyone remember sci-fi motorcycle racer Motor Raid? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_Raid

  4. Dayyyytonaaaaaaaaa!

Day one purchase. Wasted silly money in the aracdes on this as a lad.

  5. Rolllllllliiiiiiiing Staaaaaaaarrrrrrrrt!

Force feedback steering? OMG!!!! Had never seen that before. I was terrible at it (never finished a race once), but filled that machine with coins every time I was at the arcade.

  6. As with nearly all of these throwbacks, it will be a lot worse than you remember it being way back then. Just saying.....

    Don't say I didn't warn you! :D

Of course it will. But as with all these things, it will make you feel young again. :P

  8. Could I have Scud Race and F355 Challenge please.....................oh and I know its not AM2 but I really want Burning Rangers.................I'm a Burning Ranger yeah!!!

Maybe, but only one arcade 'throwback' I've gotten in the last few years has failed to be nearly as good as I remember it and that was SuperStreetFighter2THD and I think there were other reasons for that, namely I don't have the same friends to play it with. I say nearly because there is no way to properly emulate being in a late 80's early 90's arcade because its no longer the 80's or 90's. Of other throwbacks only Monkey Island: SE comes close to being disappointing.

  10. I have been asking Sega for this for years, does that mean the men in the suits at Sega are starting to listen to it's fans or finally realized where there is money to be made out of the best games that Sega ever release? And not just the spikey blue hedgehog beaten to death over the years only to be reincarnated to the best ever sonic about to be re released ... There is so much potential with Sega back catalogue let's not forget Sega was way ahead of there time and the games they produced was pure gaming heaven. I would love to see the original Sega Rally or VR Racing , or F335 Challege re released in all it's hd glory or dare I say it shenmue 1 & 2 ? Wouldnt it be great if they did there true arcade games and not just dreamcast remakes ..... Ho well for now at least a small part of my prays have been answerd and I do not have to buy a full size arcade cabinet of Daytona USA off eBay ....for now at least
