Splinter Cell Trilogy HD patch adds inverted aim

Ubisoft sneaks in missing control scheme.

Ubisoft's PS3 Splinter Cell Trilogy HD has been patched to add inverted aim support.

Fans of the backwards control scheme spoke out after finding Ubisoft had failed to cater for their choice of y-axis alignment.

The Sam Fisher-price collection contains last-gen classics Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, and was released in September to a lukewarm reception.

Inverted aim was not the only feature missing - Pandora Tomorrow and Choas Theory's multiplayer modes were also axed.

"It should be much better, though - and that's why it's hard to recommend it as strongly as the games themselves deserve," Chris Donlan wrote in Eurogamer's 7/10 Splinter Cell Trilogy HD review, while Digital Foundry had plenty to say on the game's graphical capabilities.

    Nice one.

Now sort out that fucking abysmal framerate.

    Thanks in advance.

What about the inability to open doors slowly like you could on all other console versions :/

I dont understand how they've bothered to update the games, but then took out the features that would have helped to SELL THE GAME, the MULTIPLAYER!
Even people who had the game previously, or still have would have bought it, so they could play the MP again...

Glad they added inverted again, i couldnt play it without inverted!
though i wish PS3 had a feature like 360 where it knows u want inverted Y axis all the time, rather than having to manually change it for EVERY game! It gets annoying.
    LOL

Good... but what about Beyond Good & Evil HD?

  • JohnnyWashnGo #6 2d ago

If more games let me invert the x and y axis, I would buy them. As it is, I find that I cannot buy and play a game if the axis cannot be inverted. Not my fault, just my stupid brain ;)

I guess I am not the only one out there with this issue. I wonder how many units are not sold because of this?

  • duckmouth #7 2d ago

No way I'd even attempt to play a game that wouldn't let me invert the Y axis. This is coming up in Amazon's Black Friday deals today btw for anyone who is interested.

  • Der_tolle_Emil #8 2d ago

@JohnnyWashnGo: At least on the 360 you have to look really hard to find a game not supporting this though. I invert my axis as well and so far only Beyond Good & Evil is causing me problems. You can even set the option to invert axis by default in your profile so you don't even have to go the options in a game.

Amazon.uk is offering the Trilogy in the Black Friday deals; the price has not yet been announced but it will be lower than £14.99.
Considering that on the PSN each game cost £7.99 it could be a great deal for those that does not have the Collection already.

    Hi Tom,

Any chance you could quote the source of this news? Just saying, I saw this on another site this morning who claim to be the originators of this morsel of news. It's standard practice (and polite) to quote your sources.

    Thanks,

    Jack

Just to clarify the patch was already out in public domain, I noticed it over the weekend and tried out and sure finally added in the option, but pretty too long to have done it. Attentions very much taken up and so the trilogy go back of the queue.

  • atrb79 #12 2d ago

@Beano +1. I know it's a classic but I found it unplayable with that control scheme.

  • asphaltcowboy #13 2d ago

Well, any normal person knows that "Inverters" are the spawn of Satan, but I had no idea they didn't include the multiplayer modes - that's laughable!

  • Phantom_Dynamite #14 2d ago

Playing SC with inverted controls, I'd be like a Fish-er out of water.

  • gotyourmoney #15 2d ago

Fans of the backwards control scheme
I am sick of racist comments like this. We're not 'backwards' thank you very much, just because we have a different outlook doesn't make us any worse than you mundy scumbags. Try flying a plane then come back and apologise.

  • Mughes #16 2d ago

Considering I can play all three games on the 360, is there any point in getting this trilogy? I just remember people complaining about the controls, not about whether the graphics were notably improved or not.

Edit: through the 360's BC capability, I hasten to add for the slower amongst you.

Wait they let it be out this long without fixing that!?! Mental.

Would have taken them all of 4 seconds to fix.

  • Soton4084 #18 2d ago

    @ CJail and duckmouth

Thanks for the heads up on the Amazon deal.

  • apoc_reg #19 2d ago

@Beano Original game didn't have it. Joke I know!

  • farlander #20 2d ago

Too little - too late. I've already re-learned to play without the inversion, but still feel that the inverted scheme is the CORRECT way to play. But I'm not re-learning back :(

  • apoc_reg #21 2d ago

@asphaltcowboy Look down, what did your head just do? That's right, went forward.

    Your the freak friend :-)

  • farlander #22 2d ago

@Mughes You van only play Xbox games (not 360), which are aspect ratio 4:3 and very low resolution.

  • farlander #23 2d ago

@apoc_reg Exactly! Even though I re-learned to play without the inversion, the inverted Y is still the natural way.

  • DSman59 #24 2d ago

I learn to play everything on consoles with whatever is the default control scheme. This means inverted Y-axis for N64, GC and PS2 games, but "normal" settings on PS3. Instead of whining, learn to adapt! It's not like you have to aim with your left thumb and move with the right one.

  • Feanor #25 1d ago

Chaos is spelled wrong in the fourth paragraph.

  • TaniumZX #26 1d ago

I read somewhere that higher levels of testosterone usually account for people inverting their y-axis. That would make sense.

  • arcam #27 1d ago

Look down, what did your head just do? That's right, went forward.

It went forward and down. Hence pushing down on the stick ;)

  • Beano #28 1d ago

@apoc_reg I know, but that's no excuse for not adding it. Can't be very complicated.

  • VandelayIndustries #29 1d ago

It got patched last week. ;)

Has anyone actually downloaded this patch for ps3 or is it all lies? I've just logged into psn and it didn't download a patch when I ran the game, incase it had already done an auto update I also checked the settings in the game menus and it's not there.

  • PenguinJim #31 19h ago

    @arcam

When I push down on the stick, it clicks, because I hold the pad so that the face buttons are facing up. Do you hold your pad up so that the buttons are facing you?

    Oh, you do? Weirdo!

  • DAN.E.B #32 17h ago

why is UBI having such an issue putting invert options in ther games???

  • Rack #33 12h ago

What was the Konami Code again?

    Forward, Forward, Back, Back...

    Doesn't sound right somehow.

  • afghan66 #34 7h ago

no patch for the disc version yet, download only it seems, at least for the UK, boooooo!
