Evidence points to BioWare's new game being Command & Conquer

Made by developer Victory Games.

That BioWare game teased by a very short video last night may be a new Command & Conquer.

An employee of Victory Games - an EA developer known to be rebooting Command & Conquer - listed her place of work as a BioWare studio on LinkedIn.

Superannuation spotted it, Kotaku reported it. But the reference on LinkedIn of Victory Games being a BioWare Studio has since been removed.

Victory Games making Command & Conquer under the BioWare label fits with the "new direction, new game, new studio" text that was flashed during last night's video.

Victory Games' promise of a Command & Conquer game reveal "later this year" also fits with BioWare's promise of a December Spike VGA reveal.

Plus, consider the BioWare game footage teased last night: a tank in an urban cityscape shooting at armoured personnel carriers (APCs). That, too, fits with Command & Conquer.

BioWare, the developer, is renowned for role-playing games. But the BioWare label has no such constraints: "The BioWare label is a division of EA which crafts high quality multi-platform role-playing, MMO and strategy games," its cover statement reads.

There was another train of thought suggesting this BioWare game could be something to do with Visceral Los Angeles and a new Mercenaries game. But Superannuation, a credible internet sleuth, has now poured water on that idea.

"Correction of earlier tweet: mysterious BioWare game probably is a military thing developed at EALA but has nothing to with Mercs Inc," Superannuation tweeted.

    Interesting...

EA diluting Bioware brand with third party developed game in the hope of selling some more copies from the maker of Mass Effect/Dragon Age....It's a slippery slope.

  • cyacomini #4 1d ago

C&C; hasn't been the same since Westwood.

    Woe is me.

    Dude, like... woah, man.

Not that I have any time left away from SC2, but still, will be interesting to see what they do with it.

I'd love to see something like C&C; Renegade. It has received very mixed reviews but I enjoyed it quite a lot; Multiplayer has especially quite a bit of potential.

  • Acquiescence #8 1d ago

Can't they just continue making games that feature alien babes? I've got something in my pants for the Asari to command and conquer.

    Let's rock! Shake it baby!

Bioware is a quality dev. Highly talented people there. If this rumor is true, that bodes well for the C&C; franchise. Giving developers new projects in different genres is also a good thing, rather than having them do the same type of game over and over. Makes it interesting for them and means some fresh ideas come into the games. Looking forward to some reveals in december.

  • Froggit #11 1d ago

This isn't Bioware the developer though, it's more like Bioware "the brand"
Either way, itcould be a new C&C; so it will be interesting to see how it turns out

I hope they return to their roots and stop all the bullshit, all I want is larger maps, more units and better multiplayer, I hate all the crap they started adding which ruins it for me

Please don't let this be an online version of CnC.
Bring back the Red Alert series gameplay, and not the naff CnC Generals or the "just ok" Kane series stuff.

CnC really did stop being good once EA got their claws in....except of course for the Red Alerts , Tiberium Sun and Renegade...but they were all developed prior to the take over.

As I see it, EA's first Cnc was Generals.

  • ShiroBen #14 1d ago

    Jeez Louise, it's Stalin!

  • Der_tolle_Emil #15 1d ago

CnC Generals was actually a lot of fun. It had nothing to do with CnC but it was a pretty good game - it just had the wrong title, that's all.

  • LHH #16 1d ago

    oh god! And here I was thinking EA should just let the once great series die after they killed it years ago then pissed on it's grave with C&C4.;

So Bioware... hmm, Tanya is the new waifu, Stalin is in a relationship with Einstein and there will be a conversation wheel to help you choose which commanders bum you want to put your nuke into...

    well, worst case scenario anyway

  • The-Bodybuilder #17 1d ago

I still don't get why EA had to make a whole new dev, call it "Bioware Montreal" even though it has nothing to do with Bioware or their history of games, and then rebooting a C&C; game.

It's bad enough they abuse IP branding, now they want to abuse developer branding too? I thought EA were meant to be changing? Seem to be going back to their old ways at a rapid rate.

  • abigsmurf #18 1d ago

C&C; 3 was a fun RTS that mostly captured the feel of the original series.

C&C4; was a poor Dawn of War 2 clone and was a slap in the face to C&C; fans.

  • Turrican_Freak #19 1d ago

command and conquer games of late were adequate. My favourite are the one made by westwood. Tiberian Sun above all.

  • Freek #20 1d ago

So this is the Bioware EA label, a brandname. Not actually a new game from the people that made Dragon Age and Mass Effect.
In oher words: nobody knows what this will be or if it will be any good.
It's not even "Bioware's take on CnC", wich would have been interesting. It's just a sticker on the box, a logo on the intro screen.

  • gotyourmoney #21 1d ago

Wait, wait, wait. I just had an idea.

Mass Effect / Sins of a Solar Empire cross-over.

    That is all.

  • uknortherner2000 #22 1d ago

@The-Bodybuilder EA's abused developer branding for years. The name Maxis springs to mind along with the hundreds of crappy Sims and Sim City knock-offs they churned out under the Maxis brand, long after Will Wright and most of the original staff had left.

If anything can be milked, EA will be the first to do it.

Let's forget the fact this new game was introduced as a "new IP from Bioware".

  • andijames #24 1d ago

If they turn this into a bastard FPS like they have done with Syndicate i will not be amused. Although unfortunately i can see it happening :(

  • LHH #25 1d ago

@abigsmurf I must agree, I loved C&C3;, still play it too

  • jonfon #26 1d ago

    @Der_tolle_Emil
Agreed. I really enjoyed Generals, thought it was a much more enjoyable game than 3. Wasn't Command and Conquer really but it was fun.

  • fongy #27 1d ago

seeing how most remakes are going...
it'll probably be turned into another FPS...

  • Inmediasress #28 1d ago

Not like Bioware is anything like it used to be.
The talented people left a few years ago, apart form the two Docs that are mouthpieces to EA.
I don't even care about them giving their name to something else, apart from the fact that courts should erect a law against such balatant and open misleading of people.

  • RexRunti #29 1d ago

Weren't Pandemic, the company behind Full Spectrum Warrior a part of BioWare for a while? At any rate it will only be the third non RPG (assuming it isn't an RTS/RPG or action/RPG hybrid) with BioWare stuck on it ever.

  • Apaar #30 1d ago

My respect for BioWare is already dangerously close to zero, but if turns out to be true it may well be pushed down below freezing point.
