Massive Minecraft user statistics revealed
A mere 292 million log-ins a month.
Lots of people play Minecraft. And lots of people means big numbers.
One of those big numbers is 241,920,000, which is the amount of log-ins Minecraft has each month.
That statistic was one of a handful shared at Minecon this weekend passed, and reported by GameFront.
Broken down, that number represents 1000 log-ins per hour. When Minecraft 1.0 launched last Friday, there were 4000 log-ins per second.
The Minecraft launcher has now downloaded 2 billion files. And 11,000 skin downloads happen in game every second.
More than 4 million people have bought Minecraft, making tiny developer Mojang - and game creator Markus Persson - very rich indeed. Eurogamer's Minecraft launch review dished out 10/10.
"Minecraft is a towering achievement in the very possibilities of gaming," wrote reviewer Alec Meer, "and it does this without losing itself to either esoterica or cynicism. It is a game anyone can play and anyone can get something out of, no matter how skilled or imaginative they are."

~242m logins / month
versus
<150m births / year
Or, in other words, Minecraft kills unborn babies.

When one log-in actually means something in Minecraft - than I'll actually care what this is supposed to say. But the reality is Minecraft crashes all the time for many people, requiring new log-in after new log-in. On one of my setups, I would have to restart the game 10 times every hour (10 log-ins from a single person per hour of online play). When you take into account all the other users that report stability issues, I'm a bit surprised it is this little considering how many people play the game.
Plus lets not forget the many times you encounter server stability issues and need to log back on and off to get things working here. I won't even touch all the times players are kicked from a game when someone else drops XP orbs (thus requiring every further log-ins).
To me all this statistic says is Mojang really needs to work on their stability and implement a more streamlined approach to playing the game both offline and online.

Is it 242,000,000 (as the article suggests) or 292,000,000 (as the title suggests)?

The increased logins at launch might have something to do with the updater crashing when the server couldnt keep up, requiring you to log in multiple times

@Bennicus
Well you sort of can blame them, unless copy-paste has justifiably replaced even the most cursory proof reading.

Broken down?
241,920,000 logins a month
assume an average 30 days in one month
equals 8,064,000 logins a day
24 hours in a day
333,600 logins every hour
60 minutes in every hour
5600 logins every minute
60 seconds in every minute
~93 logins every second
