Ancel shows off Beyond Good & Evil 2 footage

New concept art, gameplay clip within.

Unseen concept art and footage from in-limbo sequel Beyond Good & Evil 2 was shown off by creator Michel Ancel late last week.

A cam clip captured at an invitation-only event in Montpellier on Saturday and then posted on YouTube shows Ancel discussing development of the game and its distinctive visual style.

According to a brief summary posted on NeoGAF, the development team traveled to India to research the game's look. Ancel explained that the game engine Ubisoft has come up with can accommodate huge, fully explorable cities.

He then screened some footage from the game showing heroine Jade racing through a busy urban landscape.

The fate of Beyond Good & Evil 2 remains uncertain. Earlier this year Ancel suggested that the game is going to skip this console generation so that it can leverage more powerful tech.

    That's not in-game footage. That's just an FMV. I had to sit through all that bollox just to see that? FFS.

    On the one hand, I'm happy that the amazing video from 2009 really is from Beyond Good and Evil 2.

    On the other, it looks the same as it did two and a half years ago, which suggests that it was pre-rendered all along :( We need to see something holding a controller demonstrating the game, and that shouldn't be too much to ask given the amount of time that has gone by.

    @Rodney Sorry Rodney. It looks both gritty and realistic. And has machine guns. Lots of machine guns. If anything, it looked like a (very nice) version of the Nepalese city sequence from Uncharted2.

    My worry is that they've seemed to ditch the entire fantasy manimal hybrid characters and whimsy Ninty-esque SciFi environment that made BGE1 so unique. The character sketches are all human (the only manimal hinted at is Uncle Pey'j from the original teaser trailer). There's even a cow in there, which would be odd if there were cow people around. The apparent Michael Bay "akshun" and violence doesn't fit the original. If this turns into a COD-a-like with a token pig dude, the world will cry.

    No pot smoking rasta rhino men at Mamago, no sale... please don't let my purchase of BGE HD be for nothing...

    I'm not sure that this is ACTUAL gameplay footage because I'm pretty sure Iv'e seen that chase scene over a year ago more clearly and it looked the same, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31QEERV4Rdc So I bet it's still a ways off.

    @ED209 Which most people can't play as the y-axis can't be inverted. Bloody awful, and they're never going to patch it either.
