New issue of Edge out next week

Introducing E235, featuring BioShock Infinite and the birth of a new gaming icon.

E235

Issue 235 of Edge will go on sale in UK newsagents November 22, with BioShock Infinite's Elizabeth taking pride of place on the cover. She lies at the very centre of Irrational Games' new world and we explore her relationship both to the floating city of Columbia, and to the player, in our lead feature.

After that, we look at how Raspberry Pi is helping David Braben in his mission to foster a new generation of game makers, while Rockstar's Sam Houser helps us piece together how Liberty City was constructed and why GTAIII changed gaming forever.

Among much more content elsewhere in the issue we profile Killzone developer Guerrilla Games and explore the making of Full Spectrum Warrior. DJ and presenter Alex Zane tells us about his penchant for Amiga-era classics and we consider that most versatile piece of gaming's construction kit, the humble block.

In addition to all of this, our usual raft of previews and reviews include the likes of Planet Side 2, The Secret World, Mass Effect 3, Skyrim, Modern Warfare 3 and Assassin's Creed Revelations.

For more about the issue, visit its magazine page, where you can subscribe to our print or digital editions. You can also now get Edge through Newsstand on iOS devices.

Out of every single one of the 'celebrity' interviews since the relaunch, I'd much rather see someone high profile in gaming asked the exact same questions.

Got my issue today. I'll read it after some SM 3D Land

Er, who exactly is this new gaming icon mentioned at the top of this item? Perhaps I'm being dumb, but the item itself doesn't say who this icon is.

Her name is Elizabeth. She's basically the main source of momentum for the plot in Bioshock Infinite. What helps is her voice acting amd the emotion that she conveys. She will be the next Alyx Vance, no question. Here is the incredible footage from E3 so you can understand what all the fuss is about.

Isn't it somewhat premature to be hailing this Elizabeth character as a new gaming icon? I mean, for all we know, she may appear only in the new Bioshock game and then disappear without trace. It remains to be seen if she's an icon to stand alongside the likes of Lara Croft or Mario.

Who? Is that another gaming "icon"?

A fair point. I am merely basing that rather bold statement on the gameplay footage I've seen. Given Irrational's track record for characterisation and how well Elizabeth is executed as a living creation (without wanting to sound like I've disappeared up my own arse) she definitely has the potential to be as memorable a companion as Alyx was in Half-Life 2.

I guess the Zinio edition will be at least a week late again...

No mention of Ian? Shocking omission chaps. No wonder he's forced to start his own thread.

I've never been a massive fan of Alex Zane. Can't say I'm too bothered about reading what he has to say.

BioShock Infinite, however... Now we're talking.

I'm hoping this new Bioshock game includes Legacy controls. The last two didn't, and that made them unplayable. It was the same with The Orange Box and Left For Dead. It's disappointing and baffling that they leave that option out. If legacy controls are not important, why are they included in so many other games? Cost? Time? Anyone know?
