CAREER NOTES:

Mariko Kiplagat Kipchumba began his marathon career with three consecutive victories at Regensburg, Bremerhaven and Utrecht. In the latter race he ran a personal best of 2:11:16.

He returned to Utrecht in 2008 to finish third and with no other world-class results for the year, not much was expected when he came to Berlin. But Kipchumba came through with a big personal best of 2:09:03 good for fourth place and five points on the World Marathon Majors scoreboard.

Kipchumba also ran his fastest half-marathon time in Berlin when he came in seventh at 1:02:02.
