Information about the Ministry

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia was established on May 17th, 1993 at the height of the Georgian-Abkhaz war, when the people of Abkhazia faced a danger of total annihilation. Under isolation, economic embargo and constant threat of another war on the part of Georgia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs carried foreign policy, often through the dedicated work of the Abkhaz diplomats.

Abkhazian diplomacy was developing in interaction with the representatives of the oldest and most influential diplomatic schools of Russia, United Staes, Great Britain, France, Germany, and with international organizations such as UN, OSCE, EU and other actors of the process of settlement of the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict .

Our priorities are:
- Security and economic development of our beautiful country;
- Achievenent of international recognition;
- Attracting international investment and new technologies;
- Protection of the rights of our citizens abroad.

Minister

GUNDJIA MAXIM was born on March 13 1976 in Sukhum (Abkhazia). In 1998 graduated from the Gorlovka State Teacher Training Institute for Foreign Languages (Ukraine). Since 1999 employed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia. Till 2002 worked at the Department of Interpretation. Author of several analytical researches in the fields of small arms and landmines. In summer 2001 certificated at Harvard Law School USA, MA on the Negotiations skills. From 2001 until 2002 member of the AbCBL (Abkhaz Committee to Ban Landmines) in frames of the International campaign against landmines ICBL Participant of various international conferences and seminars on the issues of security and actions against small arms proliferation.
In 2002 appointed on the position of Head of the International Department of the Foreign Ministry. In 2004 awarded with the diploma of the University of South Wales on Human Rights. Appointed as Vice Foreign Minister in March 2004. From 2005 representative of Abkhazia at the UNPO(Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization). Member of the UNPO Presidency. Promoted to the position of the foreign minister of the Republic of Abkhazia by the Presidential Decree number 50 of 26th of Aprli 2010.
Married. Has three wonderful sons.

Vice Ministers

INAPSHBA ASIDA was born on May 5, 1968 in Tkvarchal (Abkhazia). In 1990 graduated from the Abkhazian State University. Since February 1994 employed by the Ministry of Foreign Affaires of the Republic of Abkhazia to the State Protocol Department. On May 1995 appointed on the position of Head of the State Protocol Department of the MFA of Abkhazia. On June 2010 appointed Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia.
Participant in various international seminars on conflict resolution and peace-building. Member of the Abkhaz delegation on the High-level meetings of the Group of Friends of Secretary-General, Geneva.
