Mission Center: The Episcopal Church: Community

The Indigenous Theological Training Institute

The Indigenous Theological Training Institute (ITTI) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides resources, advocacy and support to people of Native American heritage who seek religious leadership education and spiritual formation through ordained orders, lay leadership roles, or their respective community-based ministerial and leadership positions.

The primary focus of ITTI is the theological education for formation of Native American students.  ITTI has been offering scholarships to Native American students involved in the Episcopal Church since 1996. In Spring 2009, the ITTI and the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society (The Episcopal Church) awarded nearly $30,000 to ten Native American students. Going forward, each of its Native American college and seminary students is eligible for awards of up to $5,000.00 annually.

ITTI provides financial scholarships to students who meet the following criteria:

  • Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB) or proof of tribal enrollment.
  • Statement of Intention to work in Native American/Indigenous ministries upon completion of their course of study.
  • Letters of support from their bishop or priest and other individuals involved in their church life.

Do you want to know more about the ITTI scholarship program for Native Americans, or to request a brochure? Just give them a call at 1-800-818-0466.  They would be happy to discuss your particular interests and ministry areas.
