Going green with Lexus

November 1, 2011 - 5:25pm

Lexus has long been the envy of the luxury segment, but has recently grown quite green. The Lexus CT 200h is changing what we think we know about luxury rides.

As I peeped this street-rod inspired hybrid outside my door, nothing about it screamed or whispered eco-friendly.

Looks can be deceiving, so I opened the door and inspected it front to back. Nothing stood out other than the joystick that apparently shifts gears adjacent to the steering wheel and an Atari paddle contraption in the gearshift’s normal place.

The “Official” Amber Cole Video, #TeamAmberCole, and #TeamBoys, Too

November 1, 2011 - 12:54pm

I am embarrassed that I only recently explored the story of Amber Cole, a 14-year-old girl who was recorded while participating in a sexual act in a Baltimore high school. The “Official Amber Cole Video” has now gone viral and a twitter search of the teen’s name yields some of the most deplorable statements I have ever read. Period.

Lunchline: The Wizards disappoint D.C. basketball fans

November 1, 2011 - 12:15pm

Kim Kardashian is one impressive businesswoman. Say what you will about her respect -- or lack thereof-- for the sanctity of marriage, every single thing she does makes money. Legally. She is winning.

It was a hectic Halloween night in the District , and the trick-or-treating was easily the tamest part. No fewer than six people were shot in the city Halloween night, and one in Georgetown, the heart of one of D.C.'s long-standing celebration centers for the holiday. The revelry turned chaotic once gunshots went off, The Post's Martin Weil reports. Too bad D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier hadn't scheduled Monday as an "All Hands on Deck" night.

Ann Coulter: ‘Our blacks are so much better than their blacks’

November 1, 2011 - 10:40am

Ann Coulter was coming to Herman Cain’s defense against allegations of sexual harassment. The attacks, she said Monday, were fomented by the liberal establishment because they “detest conservative blacks.” The allegations were “vicious, outrageous,” and akin to the charges leveled against Clarence Thomas during his Supreme Court confirmation hearings.

‘Cover two’ turkey chili

October 31, 2011 - 4:13pm

The Redskins two game skid causes me to go back to the basics for this week’s tailgating recipe. There’s no better way to get back on a winning streak than to whip up some old fashion chili. Here’s the recipe for my “Cover two” turkey chili.

First, place a pound of ground turkey in your cooking pan over medium heat. Next, cut up some onions, green peppers, garlic, and red peppers.

Lunchline: Congress squashes Sulaimon Brown’s allegation

October 31, 2011 - 12:44pm

Monday has to be the worst possible day for Halloween. People celebrate all weekend, and then the actual day still doesn't come until the next week. Annoying. Have a happy one, kids!

Congress has made its decision about Sulaimon Brown . Brown's allegation he was promised a job in the Vincent Gray administration in exchange for sullying the name of then-Mayor Adrian Fenty during the last election cycle has been disproved by a congressional committee. An investigation found there was no direct evidence that Gray used campaign consultants to fund a smear attack on Fenty through Brown. The Post's Nikita Stewart reports on the latest shenanigans at the Wilson Building.

Halloween, not my family tradition

October 31, 2011 - 11:17am

I was never allowed to participate in Halloween growing up. My mother forbade us from going trick or treating and she wouldn’t answer the door when revelers came to our house looking for candy. She just didn’t believe in the “holiday” and thought it was dangerous to go to stranger’s homes and ask for candy. Maybe it’s an immigrant thing.

Halloween and ‘disposable blackness’

October 28, 2011 - 3:15pm

Halloween has always been an excuse to be something—or someone—else. Whether it was the Celtics dancing in animal skins or Catholics dressed up as saints and devils, October 31 was the day to shed your day-to-day persona in favor of something a little more interesting.

It’s no surprise that the specter of America’s past and post-racism future rear their ghoulish heads around Halloween. Some consider the holiday weekend as a free pass to wear costumes that highlight hurtful cultural stereotypes.

Johnny Wright reads to schoolchildren in Anacostia

October 28, 2011 - 12:23pm

The three-year-olds smiled and screamed with joy as Johnny Wright made the sounds of a ‘choo-choo’ train while reading Watty Piper’s “The Little Engine That Could.”

Wright, a native of Chicago, is best known for styling the hair of celebrities including First Lady Michelle Obama. But the pre-schoolers--who had no idea who he was--were so excited about their guest that their teacher could hardly get them to close their eyes for nap time.

Lunchline: What’s stopping the Purple Line?

October 28, 2011 - 12:07pm

The Capitals finally dropped one last night in Canada, but they're still undefeated on American soil. No bother with hockey, however, last night's World Series Game 6 was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. More on that later.

More grotesque details were revealed in court yesterday in the Lululemon trial . Via audio clips, jurors learned the details of how Brittany Norwood weaved the web of lies that had police confounded for a few days about just went down that night in Bethesda. In short, Norwood went incredibly big with her dishonesty, and the anatomy of her cover-up involved not just outright falsehoods, but also a completely phony sense of concern for Murray. (Norwood's lawyer has acknowledged that she killed her co-worker, saying she "lost control" during a fight.) The Washington Post's Dan Morse reports on the details.
