Fatima Comes to Boston
Posted by DariaSockey in Faith on Friday, October 07, 2011
Since October is the month of the Rosary, and October 13th is the anniversary of what I like to call The Day God proved His Existence to the World (aka the miracle of the sun), I thought it would be a good idea to tell you about my husband’s job.
Bill is the escort of the National Pilgrim Virgin of Our Lady of Fatima. This statue was given to the World Apostolate of Fatima (formerly known as the... READ MORE

The approach of a new school year, with its many changes after a long lazy summer, is often a good time to reassess and update the family’s spiritual life as well. In addition, the coming of fall weather makes many of us feel more energized and ready for new challenges. A new challenge you may wish to consider is Catholic Family Boot Camp.
This slender volume give 30 days’ worth of simple activities... READ MORE
Do You Love the Divine Mercy Devotion?
Posted by Danielle Bean in Faith on Thursday, April 21, 2011
For those unfamiliar with The Divine Mercy, EWTN offers a helpful background and history of this devotion. I especially like their description of the message of the Divine Mercy:
The message of mercy is that God loves us — all of us — no matter how great our sins. He wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let... READ MORE
It's Not About You
Posted by DariaSockey in Faith on Thursday, March 10, 2011
Some people I know just can’t get into using the Divine Office. They don’t want to pray a Psalm of mourning when they are happy. Or vice versa. They don’t like some of the more violent or vengeful language that some of the Psalms use. Or they just prefer something more simple and consistent, like the rosary.
Here are some principles for praying the Psalms that will help you get around these difficulties.... READ MORE
Divine Office By the Book
Posted by DariaSockey in Faith on Wednesday, March 09, 2011
Starting to pray the Divine Office these days is a cinch thanks to online breviaries. Just click and there you are: all the antiphons, psalms and readings for the day.
But suppose you are like me, and like doing things the traditional way. Or you’d like your Divine Office time to also be a time to rest your eyes from the computer screen. Besides, there’s that breviary sitting on the bookcase that... READ MORE
Liturgy of the Hours for Lent
Posted by DariaSockey in Faith on Monday, March 07, 2011
Looking for a new devotion for Lent? Why not give the Divine Office a try? Long associated with clergy and religious, every Pope since Paul VI has urged the laity to ignore that stereotype and join in the Church’s Universal Prayer.
What exactly is the Divine Office? It’s a repeating cycle of psalms, scripture readings, and other prayers that follows the liturgical year. It is also called the Liturgy... READ MORE
A Small Prayer Answered
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Faith on Wednesday, October 13, 2010
Our son is not a good sleeper, and it has exhausted my husband and me.
For months we tried every trick we knew and many that we invented on the spot. We made progress, but not enough. We were exhausted from being up multiple times every night, sometimes for multiple hours.
It was manageable - with positive attitudes and taking shifts, we coped - but it was not fun.
We prayed about Blaise’s sleep... READ MORE
The Rosary as a Family Affair
Posted by Sarah Reinhard in Faith on Thursday, October 07, 2010
I always feel a little sheepish admitting to people that my family doesn’t pray the family rosary. It’s like admitting that I’m not cheering for the sports team all my friends are playing on.
It first came up in a Faith & Family podcast last year. And when I admitted it, I found myself immediately surrounded by people sighing in relief.
You mean there’s comfort in knowing that?
Good.
But, all that... READ MORE
The Prayer I HAVE to Pray
Posted by Sarah Reinhard in Faith on Wednesday, October 06, 2010
According to my confessor and spiritual director, we all have habitual sins. Each of us has an area of weakness, and that’s where our personal tempters and/or the devil attack first. In fact, when we’ve talked about my habitual sin, he used the word “addiction.”
I don’t know about you, but thinking of sin as an addiction took some getting used to. I mean, when I think of addiction, I think of drugs... READ MORE
Praying the Rosary: Try and Try Again
Posted by Sarah Reinhard in Faith on Tuesday, October 05, 2010
I have been trying to succeed at the rosary for nearly ten years. It seems to be the devotion I just can’t escape: I’ll put it away for months at a time, only to have an intention that calls for nothing less than the Big Guns.
My failures over the years seem to fall into a range of categories, but, as I’ve considered the excuses I tell myself and God over and over, there seem to be a few repeat offenders.... READ MORE
