The Carmel Mar Thoma Church had its humble beginning in Boston in the early 70's as a prayer fellowship. The parent church officially recognized the Boston gathering of the faithful as a congregation in 1981. The first diocesan bishop was Rt. Rev. Thomas Mar Athanasius and the vicar was Rev. Abraham Thomas. The congregation registered in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a legal entity in the year 1984 with the name Mar Thoma Congregation, Boston with nine families taking formal membership. The church building was dedicated in the year of our Lord 2001.
