History

Tschudi Shipping Company was established in 2003 as a result of the division of the Tschudi & Eitzen Group. Tschudi & Eitzen, which had roots back to 1883, was formed by the partnership of the two tall ship Captains Camillo Eitzen and Henry Tschudi.

During the period up to 1990 the company owned and operated a wide range of vessels starting with sailing ships and moving on to general cargo vessels, tankers, bulk carriers, OBOs and a submersible heavylift vessel. From the beginning of the 1990s, Tschudi & Eitzen was managed by Mr Axel C. Eitzen and Mr Felix H. Tschudi, both being 4th generation shipowners.

In the period up to 2003 some 60 different projects were initiated, raising equity of approximately USD 450 million. These projects included single ship purchases, en bloc deals and take-overs of private as well as public shipping companies such as Gyda Shipping of Norway, Sibo Shipping of Sweden, Ove Skou, Burwain Tankers International, EAC Shipping and KiL Shipping, all of Denmark; International Transport Contractors of Holland; Sembawang Shipmanagement of Singapore as well as the privatisation of the Estonian Shipping Company of Estonia. The take-over of these companies created the platform for a versatile international shipping company actively involved in bulk carriers, OBOs, crude oil, product and chemical tankers, gas carriers, tugs and barges as well as container and ro-ro vessels.

During 2003 the two owners of Tschudi & Eitzen, Mr. Felix H. Tschudi and Mr. Axel C. Eitzen decided to divide the T&E; Group into two new shipping companies; Tschudi Shipping Company AS and Camillo Eitzen & Co. ASA. Today Tschudi Shipping Company is solely owned by Mr Felix H. Tschudi.

From 1896 the funnel mark of T&E; was the coat of arms of the canton of Zurich on a red belt thereby combining the colours of Norway with a Swiss symbol. It was first introduced that year on the mv UTO as a gesture to the vessel's Swiss shareholders. From 1895 until 1936 Swiss capital raised from the connections of Captain Henry Tschudi whose family originated from Switzerland, provided an essential part of the investments in new vessels for the company. From that time on until the second world war the company's vessels were all given Swiss geographical names.

Tschudi Shipping Company will continue to display this time-honoured funnel mark on its directly owned vessels.
