TFCC 1 day, 20 hours ago #6089

Hi, My name is JT and I had an accident 8 weeks ago, fell from my long (skate) board onto my right hand. My wrist immediately hurt, and continued to hurt for 3-4 weeks. I went to a hand doctor and had an MRI done. The MRI shows that there is a TFCC tear. I did not get an arthrogram. I was placed in a splint for 4 weeks. MY wrist has been feeling better, but I havent done anything since its been in the splint. I recently went back to my Hand doctor and he said I should be in the splint for 4 months! No climbing, lifting, even riding a bike. Im allowed to run and swim. I'm wondering if this is a proper treatment. I asked the radiologist about the tear, and he said he could not see where it originates from and how extensive it is, the MRI was not performed in thin enough slices, and was not an arthrogram. I was wondering what the natural progression is for a TFCC tear, do they heal? When does one decide to do surgery? What the outcomes are with surgery? Is this conservative therapy recommended, or should I be getting into some physical therapy? Im getting weaker every day but I don't want to jeopardize my wrist in the future.
Thanks JT |
