Sequential Art

noun

In his 1985 book, Comics and Sequential Art, Will Eisner defined sequential art as "...the arrangement of pictures or images and words to narrate a story or dramatize an idea." Sequential art is not a style of drawing, but rather the process of arranging multiple drawings, and words, together to form comics, graphic novels and/or manga.

Some people use the term "Sequential Art" as a synonym for "comics" because it is felt to be a more respectable term, however this use of the term is questionable and part of the larger, ongoing debate regarding the proper definition of the term "comics."
