ARCHGOAT (FIN) BEHEXEN (FIN) HELL MILITIA (FRA) PARAGON IMPURE (BEL) VERLOREN (BEL)
LIVE IN GOUDVISHAL, ARNHEM 23-10-2005
Written by Robin on Tuesday 08 November, 2005. Last updated on Saturday 12 November, 2005
I looked forward to this day for quite a long time. Archgoat and Behexen on stage. Archgoat, making Old Skool Black Metal in the vein of Beherit and Black Crucifixion, Behexen making pure Satanic Black Metal in an incredible way...that had to be an amazing day. Hell Militia was also gonna play, the band I missed on Tyrants Fest Rotterdam 6/7 months ago. Two Belgian bands joined the line up as well, Paragon Impure and Verloren. Paragon Impure, a band that is not very well-known, but the stories I did hear about them, were all positive. Then Verloren, which seemed to be a depressive Black Metal band. It all seemed to be a perfect Black Metal night in Arnhem, the 23rd of October.
The door remained closed for an extra half an hour or so, but soon after that Verloren started their show on this sunday. The aggressive vocalist, screaming to the public to shut up when they clapped their hands, screamed while the amazing depressing, yet 'pure' Black Metal filled the crowded place. The sound was quite good, especially for a first act. I noticed a knife on the back of his pants, which he grabbed after taking his jacket out, between two tracks. He started to cut himself very deep, his former scars got cut open.
This band, which hasn't released very much, played several tracks from their just released album 'In Zalvend Onmin', and convinced their right to exist. After approximately 30 or 40 minutes, they left the staged and made the stage clear for the next attack: Paragon Impure.

During the break between Verloren and Paragon Impure, quite a lot of people told me that Paragon Impure is absolutely great. This other Belgian band of today entered the stage, and I immediately started to bang my head. Although the sound wasn't that good. And that was quite logical, because it was just a soundcheck, haha. 20 minutes after that, they finally started their real show. This band, which released 2 EP's, a compilation and 1 full-length, may be considered as quite new. They started in 2004, but are already doing shows across the border. And you don't hear me complaining! This band, signed by Goatowarex (like many other Belgian and Dutch bands nowadays), plays fantastic Black Metal based upon excitement. Their tracks are filled with small and great climaxes.
They try, also live, to let you feel the hate they feel. They drag you into their music, with amazing riffs and vocals which aren't used the whole track. On specific moments, vocalist Noctiz screams and makes your head bang. The 40 minute show seemed to be over after just 5 minutes. I can't remember the last time I saw a band I didn't knew on forehand, amazing me this much. I can tell you one thing; we will hear some more of our Belgian maniacs!

Hell Militia was next. If you don't know Hell Militia, you probably know one of the bands the members play in. Willy (vocals) of Mütiilation, Persecutor (guitars) of Arkhon Infaustus, maybe Hellsukkubus (bass) of Antaeus, Terror (drums) of Vorkreist or Arkdaemon (guitars) of Temple of Baal. All those bands are quite well-known in the underground, and that fact promises great Black Metal. This band, hailing from Paris (except for Willy - South France), plays devil worshipping Black fucking Metal.
I was curious to see this band, since I missed them on Tyrants Fest Rotterdam. I was glad I had the oppurtunity to see the after all. With mainly tracks coming from Canonisation of the Foul Spirit, they steamed the audience for the upcoming Behexen and Archgoat performences. Their act was not very special. They banged their heads and let the audience know they were Hell Militia, without doing something unnecessary or special.  For, I guess, 40/50 minutes they made the audience totally crazy. With their aggressive, typical French Black Metal they made their second show in this tour a success. I considered this evening as 'becoming better and better', and couldn't wait to see Behexen and, after hours and hours, Archgoat!!

Behexen, the first of two Finnish bands entered the stage. I know this band from their By the Blessing of Satan LP, which is for me one of the greatest albums of 2004. Although they already exist since 1994, and recorded several EP's, albums etc. These corpsepainted bastared started off with all the aggression they have. The crowd reacted nothing but positive from the beginning, everyone considered Behexen as the perfect supporting programme for Archgoat. With Torog as charismatic frontman, they managed to convince the audience as never before, and played quite a long set. (I heard someone complaining that last time he saw them, they only played for 15 minutes.)
The tracks they played came from most of their releases, and formed a great mix between everything they did. From the real fast and pure Black Metal, to the more slow and depressive form. For 60 minutes the crowd could enjoy the fantastic performance of this Finnish band. The band was fit, played loudly under good circumstances (sound, audience, etc.), and seemed to enjoy the show themselves as well.

Archgoat! Archgoat! Archgoat! Archgoat is one of the few bands that still makes pure Old Skool Black Metal. Already slaying since 1989, which makes them also one of the few bands that are still alive after 16 years. With a stable line-up (the only member that is 'new', is Sinister for drums) they recorded not so much. Two demo's, two EP's and a split. One of the EP's is from 2005, Angelslaying Black Fucking Metal. Thrice Damned Sodomizer was played ofcourse, and the stage, with candles, got filled and surrounded by a dirty Satanic atmosphere.
The 3 members, Lord Angelslayer, Ritual Butcherer and Sinister Karppinen spread the occult and satanic ideology by making extremely raw music and letting the audience bang their head once again this day. Their typical look (see picture) added some more to their performance, and so did the candles etc. I wasn't able to view the complete show, unfortunately, but considered this as THE gig of the night, absolutely. I'm looking forward to see them again, but one thing is for sure: when I have the upportunity to see them once again, I absolutely will accept that offer.

Special thanks to Verval for the pictures!
