The definitive Samsung Galaxy Ace GT- S5830 review

The latest addition to the Galaxy family is the Samsung Galaxy Ace GT- S5830, which packs quite a punch considering its middle-of-the-road specification and £199.99 prepay/£25 contract price point.

The Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system helps this smartphone stand tall next to other mid-range touchscreen devices, such as HTC's Wildfire, which comes with a noticeably slower processor and older version of Android, 2.1 (Eclair).

The Samsung Galaxy Ace is the little brother to the powerful Samsung Galaxy S in many ways.

If you are in the market for a new smartphone, you should check out our buying guide video:

Aesthetically, you'll be forced to play spot the difference if you put it up against the iPhone 4, and will come to the conclusion that the Samsung is generally smaller, lighter and nicer in the hand than the iPhone.

However, in terms of sex appeal, the iPhone 4 wins hands down for its sleek look and feel, since the Samsung Galaxy Ace is a bit too plasticky. Interestingly, although the Galaxy Ace is smaller, the screen size is exactly the same as the iPhone 4, at 3.5 inches.

The screen quality is a low-end TFT, and is poor compared to the Super AMOLED screen on the Samsung Galaxy S, which allows for crystal clear video playback.

There's no HD video recording, but the five-megapixel camera works well as a happy snapper – it has several shot and scene modes, which can be fun to play around with.

8. I really like the samsung galaxy ace however since getting it it has been flawed with problems, the first two I had were sent back due to system faults and the third one which I am still using now consistently turned itself off when it was connect ed to wifi - not ideal. I updated to Gingerbread using Kies which has definitely increased the speed of the phone and stopped it turning off when its on wifi, however, now I can only send text msgs when I am connected to a wifi connection.

It seems this phone is flawed with problems which is a shame because the design and layour of the phone is really nice.

7. First-techradar please i would lke it if you update this review to the latest version of android thats available for this smartphone[2.3 gingerbread]

Second-guys who has a problem with the phone...when i bought it i used to have trouble with it lke lagging and being slow while changing homescreens but when i updated the phone to the latest android available for this phone[2.3 gingerbread]using samsung kies...All the LAGGING was gone and i swear that after the update it is twice as fast from before the update [2.2 froyo]

Third-for people who have battery issues....my phone was only ON for almost six-seven hours and the bettery was empty but then i installed JUICE DEFENDER from the android market and the battery lasted to a full day even when using the wifi and listening to music but not GPS...and i think it would last for more than a day without the wifi.and also when not using the android market or email go to settings, accounts and sync and uncheck the BACKGROUND DATA box....this will save the battery

Fourth-for people who have internal memory issues..if your internal phone memory is full...simply move the apps to the memory card...if you cannot then go to settings, applications, manage applications and clear the cache of each application and therefore you will have more space in your phone memory

6. I have the samsung galaxy ace and I hope I don't regret purchasing one. Though I'm experiencing some issues like lag,auto-off,and wifi enabling! I just bought in 2 months. And the thing I hate about android is that it make things so complicated unlike nokia phones where everything can be installed in the SD card! This phone only has 180 MB that I did not notice before I buy one. Haist, can anyone tell me any advantages why I bought this phone? I could not return it anymore... huhuhu...

5. Help me choose between this and the Wildfire S, for my girlfriend. Not too much demands made on it!

4. I bought samsung galaxy ace 3 weeks ago and it was really nice, however the android market applications were set up in Turkey, though being in Egypt. Today, the touch function suddenly didn't work at all and I sent the mobile to the maintenance..... Take care...

3. had this phone for a couple of weeks and compared to my old phone its good, its actually quicker online via wifi than my pc, however there ia a major flaw with this phone and that it does not want to support flash, this means that it is severely limited in its capability to view online TV and will not even receive online radio, until this problem is ironed out I would not recommend this phone to anyone wanting to have a full smartphone experience, hopefully someone will iron out this problem and I will be able to write a better review.

2. I thinks it a good phone, but one question, does it have problems with the memory card included. Because my friend has this phone and the memory card deletes everything when you turn the phone off, and when you turn it back on it doesn't know recognize the memory card. Has this happened to anyone else?

1. Agree pretty much with most of the review. I had one over the weekend and in the sunlight the screen was barely legible. Battery Life was reasonable, though the internet was very slow in use. Downloading maps via GPS was a bit patchy. Touchscreen experience seemed ok to me (I'm a newbie to touchscreens). The sofware didn't want anything to do with .wmv files and getting apps to convert such files were not keen to work. Does playing an excerpt from ITV player(Say) need to be such a hassle? Nice looking phone, but too many irritations with it for me.
