In print through various columns, over the past twenty five years, SP Clarke has devoted nearly two million words to the Portland music scene. He is nearing the completion of a book entitled The History Of Portland Rock- One Long Journey Through The Portland Music Scene, which meticulously documents the rise to prominence of original rock music in Portland, from it’s roots in the ‘60s with bands such as the Kingsmen (“Louie Louie”) to Everclear, the Dandy Warhols, Pink Martini and Sleater-Kinney, in the present. In addition, he has composed the detailed biographies of twenty-two 20th Century American music stars, from Bing Crosby and Ethel Merman to Hank Williams and Patsy Cline, to Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry, which appear in the ‘American Legends’ series of compact discs produced and distributed by Allegro Corporation.
