I Am Alive confirmed for XBLA and PSN

Ubisoft's troubled survival adventure reborn as a download title, due this winter.

Ubisoft's troubled I Am Alive is, the publisher has confirmed, still alive, and will be released this winter.

In a press release, the publisher reveals that the game, which tells of one man's quest to find his missing wife and daughter a year after a disaster dubbed The Event, will be released not as at retail as originally planned, but for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.

Adam Novickas, Ubisoft's director of marketing, said: "We know people have been waiting for this game to arrive, and we believe it's going to be worth the wait. I Am Alive presents a unique take on the post-apocalyptic survival genre by creating more complex and emotional situations for the player."

First announced at E3 in 2008 and originally scheduled for spring 2009, I Am Alive was being developed by French independent studio Darkworks before it was passed to Ubisoft Shanghai in March 2009.

Ubisoft then said it would be released after March 31, the end of its 2011 fiscal year. In June, it was rated by the Australian classification board, and late last month came the first proper look at the game when a trailer and screens leaked on the internet.
