Glass Courses, Lectures & Workshops

[Posted 19 January 2011]
North Lands Creative Glass Annual Master Class Programme 2011:
'Touching The Past' (Caithness)
24 August – 1 September: ‘The Drive To Improvise’

Philip Eglin and Tessa Clegg, both Jerwood Applied Arts prizewinners, will be orchestrating, in cooperation with Carl Nordbruch, an experimental hot glass blowing course. The Master Class will concentrate on idea development using as many hot glass techniques - particularly mould-blowing – as possible.

24 August – 1 September: ‘The Pleasures And Difficulties Of Choice’

The Master Class, led by Ivana Šrámková, will focus on creating sculptures, made in cast glass in combination with natural and man-made found objects.

6 – 14 September: ‘Out Of Thin Air’

The main direction of Michael Rogers’ masterclass will be the development of ideas with an emphasis on the individual’s inclinations and intuitive choices. Technically the focus will be on a combination of cast and blown glass compositions, assembled hot.

6 – 14 September: ‘Painting On Glass: Developing A Personal Iconography'

In this class, lead by Cappy Thompson, students will paint flat glass and small vessel forms, applying vitreous enamels to glass using the traditional painting technique of “grisaille” or gray-tonal painting as a foundation for developing and expressing the student’s own visual vocabulary.
