We appreciate the many constructive comments received, and we will continue to revisit problematic English names on a case by case basis. We also refine and adjust English names as required by changes of species taxonomy.
NOTE (V2.10 DRAFT) Recent reviews of the English names of African bird species prompted suggestions for changing the spelling of some controversial names, for example pygmy goose, wood hoopoe and painted snipe. We posted some of these suggested changes to get feedback, which has been generally critical, especially of single words versus the hyphenated option. Formal changes seem premature pending further review and discussion. Still listed below are 6 of the least controversial (?) proposed changes.
