Ad hoc Mari committee is a bad joke
We have an ongoing criminal investigation into the Mari naval base blast on July 11th; we have another ‘committee’ under Polys Polyviou probing the facts to apportion responsibility; we have already had a similar probe by the House Defence Committee (no jokes please) - and now we are told that Parliament has appointed an Ad Hoc committee to “monitor the investigation process”.
I bet they will be monitoring both investigations very closely: particularly those members of the committee who also serve or served on the House Defence Committee any time after the Monchegorsk’s cargo was confiscated in 2009.
It seems to me quite extraordinary that our MPs have seen fit to appoint to this committee none other than the current and previous chairmen of the House Defence Committee, as well as two members of the previous Defence Committee as ‘reserve’ members! These, surely, as members of the Defence Committee at the time, are the MPs who were well aware of the decisions being taken about the confiscated munitions – yet they did NOTHING.
Their role in the whole affair, one would hope, is also subject to investigation, but I’m quite sure no-one would dream of suggesting a conflict of interests.
