Asja Prize 5000 Euros

The Jury of the International Documentary Competition is composed by  Candida Paltiel, Modena City Ramblers (Davide “Dudu” Morandi, Massimo “Ice” Ghiacci, Franco D’Aniello, Francesco “Fry” Moneti), Alice Audouin, Ruben Khachatryan. The international jury prize is awarded to

LIFE FOR SALE
by Yorgos Avgeropoulos

Honorable Mention to:

HOMMES AUX SERPENTS
by Eric Flandin

The winning films powerfully communicate how we are faced with choices: social, political, economic, individual and collective in either choosing the path of destruction or in preserving life and the sustainability of the planet.
They consistently illustrate the relationship of the human world with the natural world and the fragility of that relationship. They did so thoughtfully in very complex, diverse, and highly charged situations. The international jury prize is awarded to Life for Sale and the honorable mention to Snake Man: Life for Sale  by Yorgos Avgeropoulos acts as a warning about the extreme impact of the commodification of nature Snake Man by Eric Flandin shows how a single person can make that connection and difference in an almost magical way: Both films mirror and communicate the critical momemt the world is facing and show inspirational ways to deal with.
Cinemambiente once again shows the power of films to make change.

GARBAGE DREAMS
by Mai Iskander

Honorable Mention to:

PLASTIC PLANET

by Werner Boote

The criteria for choosing GARBAGE DREAMS as a winning film might appear superficial, compared to the ones employed by an International Jury, but the film has been carefully examined from different  points of view.
The main purpose of this jury, composed by students was to choose a film capable of grabbing the attention of young people like us and engage them. The final choice, source of many discussions had been GARBAGE DREAMS. Thanks to their main charachters, with whom it is easy to empathize, we faced a different reality, which was closer to us than we expected We realized how such a rich and arrogant Country as ours has a lot to learn in matters of recycling and re-use. The dreams of those kids, albeit very different from ours, have the very same roots. The hope for a safer and cleaner future. We do hope that the young audience watching this film will understand the importance of the Separate Waste Collection, and will start to take care for the Planet without been overwhelmed by the sad, endless search for profit

We awarded PLASTIC PLANET with an  honorable mention. It is a documentary that helped us reflect upon a material nowadays considered so common and banal to the point of being above any suspicion. We were shocked by the impact of plastic on our health and even more by the false ignorance of directors of  big corporations, who are busy in filling our planet with plastic We warmely hope that the  alarm bell sent by the film director  will be received and  deepened

CITIES ON SPEED: BOGOTA’ CHANGE

by Andreas Mol Dalsgaard

THE END OF THE LINE

by Rupert Murray

The challenge of social and environmental sustainability should be a main issue of global and local governments.  The communication of  real-life cinema becomes an instrument of interpretation and an example of how politics is working in different areas of the Planet.   For this reason the Special mention given by the Green Cross Jury is assigned to two films very different from each other in their visual language, way of production and subject. Both films represent this challenge.
The first film,  a real story narrated with humor and high spirit, shows us a new possible world, thanks to the intelligence and the “good crazyness” of two men who decided not  to surrender to  conformism and   give a new boost to politics with competence and method. In fact,  if all big cities could be ruled in the way suggested by Antanas Mockus and Enrique Peñalosa, we could finally speak of an eco-sustainable society and show that a new world is possible.
The second film awarded is a documentary capable of comparing the beauty of underwater biodiversity images, usually seen in more pleasing contexts, with the alarming problem of extinguishing of the fishing stock   and its implications for marine life. This problem becomes the symbol of the world’s environmental crisis, it shows on screen the global crash between nature, with its immovable laws, and bad politics that obeys to private interests.
