Caution will thwart success of SMS scams
Fri, Mar 26, 2010
my paper

By Mr Nelson Quah

I REFER to the report, 'Beware of lucky-draw scam via text message' (my paper, March 24).

Recipients of text-message scams should be cautious and ask themselves two questions.

Why would anyone give them a large sum of money for no reason?

And, if they have indeed won something, why is there a need to make payment before claiming their prize money?

Is it possible for our police to cooperate with international agencies to track down and bring the scammers to justice?
