Legg declared her candidacy for Kentucky Secretary of State in the 2011 Kentucky statewide elections on January 24, 2011.[2] She failed to claim the Republican nomination in the May 17 primary, falling to western Kentucky businessman Bill Johnson in a close race.
- NOTE: Hilda Legg requested a recanvass of the vote in the Republican primary, which was conducted on May 26. It did not change the result.[3]
