The current officeholder is Keith Kelly. He was appointed by Gov. Brian Schweitzer in 2005.

Authority

The state Constitution establishes the Department of Labor and Industry in Article XII, the Executive Department.

Under Article XII, Section 2:

The legislature shall provide for a Department of Labor and Industry, headed by a Commissioner appointed by the governor and confirmed by the senate.

Compensation

In 2010, the Montana Commissioner of Labor and Industry was paid an estimated $96,967 according to the Council of State Governments.[1]
