Born 1953 in Signau, Emmental in Switzerland. Lives in Shanghai and Berne. Education in Signau and Berne, Teacher’s certification, strengthening in media pedagogy; continuing work with video and film since the early seventies, including political films as well as in the context of research projects.
Professor and Founder of the MediaLab at the Berne University of the Arts; CEO/Owner of Container TV, Film and Television Productions Inc., (since 1978); Media Consultant; Director of feature length cinematic documentaries, short films, art project, commissioned films for TV and national and international organizations (e.g. International Committee of the Red Cross, Swiss Development Corporation, Swiss Red Cross, Swissrails, Federal Health Department, corporate films and multi media installations).
Worked in Switzerland and abroad. Made films in Bangladesh, Nepal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Bolivia, China and the US. 1973 study visit in Algeria, 1986 studio in New York, 1987 to 1988, main residence in Curup, Sumatra, 2001 to 2004, main residence in Washington DC. Since September 2008 main residence in Shanghai, China
Scholarship and awards: Studio New York: scholarship from the Board of Photo, Film and Video, Berne; Cristallo di Locarno –best corporate documentary; Nominated for the International Documentary Award- Pare Lorentz, Los Angeles; Berne Film Award for best documentary.
Committee Work: From 1987 to 1995 member of the Film Commission of the Canton of Berne; 2007, member of the strategy group for the Berne film promotion; 2007 and 2008, Jury member for the “Förderpreis” (special award: best diploma) at the Zurich University of the Arts, from 2005 to 2008, member of the no-fiction committee for the “Zürcher Filmstiftung”, member of the expert panel at exams for degrees or admission at the Berne University of the Arts. Many film presentations in Switzerland and abroad.
