School Workshops

The SEED School Workshops are an educational and cultural immersion experience for Schlumberger volunteers working in SEED schools. The primary audience is the students with a secondary benefit being professional development for teachers. There are several different formats for School Workshops with time commitments ranging from several hours to a week or more. School workshops have been held in Thailand, Malaysia, Mexico, Venezuela, Indonesia, India, Vietnam and Russia.

International School Workshops

In 2003 Isabelle Pelletier Tardy and Philippe Tardy led the first SEED School Workshops in Thailand. They led a week-long workshop on the SEED Water Project for 40 students and their teachers at Kohtaew Pitthayasan School in Songkhla, and a similar workshop the following week at Triamudomsuksa School in Phitsanulok.

Workshop in Thailand

Since then other Schlumberger volunteers, based in developed countries, have traveled to SEED schools overseas to lead similar School  Workshops on an established SEED theme such as Water or Energy, or on a topic based  their own interests and expertise. SEED Staff are available to help volunteers refine their topics, prepare workshop outlines and materials and facilitate travel arrangements.

Local School Workshops

Many School Workshops are conducted by Schlumberger volunteers who are located close to SEED Schools.  This allows more flexible use of time. A workshop may be as short as a few hours and focus on a specific activity related to a SEED theme or from the Science Lab area of the SEED web site.

Local School Workshops may take the form of ongoing courses that meet weekly, such as the Reading Clinics being taught by volunteers in the Kuala Lumpur area of Malaysia, or the science courses run by volunteers at SRPC in Clamart.

SEED Staff can help volunteers design and prepare for these local School Workshops.
