The Making of Oil
Tapping The Reservoir

Detection Opening Detection: Oil is detected by studying the earth's surface, by remote sensing, and by lowering sensors into wells. Each of these three methods studies the earth at different depths and at different scales -- from inches to miles.

Evaluation opening  Evaluation: Once you've detected oil, the next step is to evaluate what you've found: How much oil is there? Where exactly is it? And how easily will it flow?

Production opening  Production: Once oil is found and evaluated, the next challenge is planning the safest, cleanest and most efficient way to get it out of the ground, maximizing recovery and minimizing risk and cost.
