The Treasurer of the State of Kentucky is the chief financial officer of the government of Kentucky. It was one of the original positions created by the Kentucky Constitution of 1792. Constitutional Conventions in 1850 and 1891 did little to affect the office. Up until 1851, the governor recommended the Treasurer and the Legislature agreed. The 1850 Constitution made the treasurer an elected office serving a two-year term. In 1891 this was extended to four-years.[1]

The treasurer is responsible for maintaining the state funds and acting as the state's bank. They serve four-year terms.

The current treasurer of Kentucky is Todd Hollenbach (D). He is the 37th state treasurer, was elected in 2007, and is seeking re-election in 2011, having claimed the Democratic Party nomination during the May 17 primaries.
