After winning the May 17, 2011 Republican primary Williams became the GOP's nominee for Governor of Kentucky. Williams and his running mate, outgoing Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer, will face incumbent Democrat Steve Beshear and Louisville Mayor David Abramson in the November 8 general election.
Williams operates his own private law practice in Burkesville, KY. He earned his BGA from the University of Kentucky and went on to receive his JD from the University of Louisville.

Williams won re-election to the 16th District Seat in the Kentucky State Senate with no opposition. He received 24,484 votes. [1]
In the May 18th primary election, Williams defeated his Republican primary opponent Denver Capps by a margin of 18,407 to 4,143.[2]
