Weiner's Parking Problem

Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.), the self-appointed scourge of diplo plate scofflaws in Manhattan, has racked up more than $2,000 in parking tickets himself around Capitol Hill.

From 2007 to early March of this year, Weiner’s ticket total was $2,180 for violations near the Capitol and at Reagan Washington National Airport, according to a survey published Tuesday by Roll Call, the Capitol Hill newspaper.

A Weiner spokesman said all of the fees had since been paid, and the spokesman told Roll Call that his boss  “is pleased to have helped decrease the D.C. budget deficit."

Weiner has raged against foreign dignitaries who ignore New York City’s traffic rules, and last year introduced a bill seeking to get $18 million in unpaid parking tickets from 180 nations for the city.

“It’s insulting to all New Yorkers that countries like Yemen, Zimbabwe and Iran owe the city millions in unpaid parking tickets,” Weiner said. “Diplomats park illegally, ignore paying their parking tickets and expect New Yorkers to pick up the tab. This needs to end.”

A Roll Call survey showed that lawmakers in Washington had at least $15,000 in parking tickets and moving violations, and $11,500 worth of those tickets were in default.
