  • ShereeKrider  Of course LGE will tell us that our utility costs will go up because of UPGRADES AND CHANGES TO THE STATES COAL FIRED PLANTS....and they probably will go up - but this is a good way for LGE (EON or whoever owns LGE right now) to scare the public into harassing the government officials to not pass the regulations that will make the needed changes to these plants - IT IS a matter of life and death for many who live near these plants. I lived in Louisville all my life until now and I KNOW what coal ash can do to people. Ive watched them die from what I believe to be "cancer" from the chemicals emitted from these plants. So don't pay too much attention to "rate increases". It just means you will need to shut off the lights when you are not using them and be a little more conservative in your use of electric in general - That will make up for the rate increases and may save your life too!

  • ShereeKrider  Mar. 29, 2011 Chattanooga is tracking meteors across the region and is looking for somewhere to track the sky over Kentucky and Ohio. The Chattanooga Times reports that NASA has unmanned cameras in Chickamauga, Ga., Cartersville, Ga. , Huntsville, Ala., and Tullahoma, Tenn. And in the coming year, the space agency hopes to expand the skywatching effort. "I plan on placing another group of five cameras somewhere along the Atlantic seaboard and another group of five somewhere in the Ohio and Kentucky region," said William Cooke, head of NASA’s Meteoroid Environment Office, based at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville. Anyone interested in pitching a site should contact NASA. The cameras work best in areas with a clear horizon free of trees with little bright light, and have a speedy Internet connection. NASA has some video available that was captured in the Huntsville area, including one of a bird and a spider. It's pretty cool.
