Basketball Goals - Industry Change
From the time that people would nail up a peach basket to a tree, basketball goals have been evolving. There could be an argument made that the true innovations in the industry have been inspired by the end-users, those who have played the game in driveways and back yards all over the country. The fact is that many of the companies that started manufacturing basketball goals have done so via a new idea or innovation. The American drive to always improve on an idea is still at work to this very day. Why reinvent the wheel? The interesting part of the basketball goal space is that it is crowded. That is to say there have been a lot of people making improvements to basketball goals for a long time. The big push in the most recent years has been in the portable basketball goal space, and more specifically the method of adjustment. Due to many home owner associations, in-ground basketball goals have become prohibited. The covenants are written to eliminate or govern the use of in-ground basketball goals. The reasons vary, but perhaps the most compelling argument stems from owners who will often leave a broken, visually ugly or even rusty basketball goal permanently planted in concrete for all to see, for many years to come. Of course neighbors are not very happy with this type of situation, it tends to lower property values, as well as impairing the pleasant views within a subdivision. Basketball Goal Height Adjustment
In the old days, basketball goals came in one variety, fixed height. That is the basketball goal rim was always at 10 feet. However, the market place was soon demanding a specific innovation, the ability to adjust the height of the rim. Younger kids were, for the most part unable to enjoy playing on a standard basketball goal, because they could not throw the ball high enough to make a basket. The market responded with new basketball goals that were adjustable. The standard range is 7.5 feet up to the regulation 10 feet. The adjustment is usually made in 6 inch increments. However there are some adjustable basketball goals on the market that allow for infinite adjustments between 7.5 and 10 feet. The basketball goal that has the lowest adjustment height is the Barbarian Basketball Goal. It can be lowered to 5.5 feet, low enough for little kids to be able to shoot baskets.
