OpenIT@giz supports its partners in Africa and Asia to provide advanced knowledge in Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), Open Innovation and Open Source Software. The key objectives of the OpenIT@giz programs (formerly: it@inwent programmes) are to strengthen IT sectors, foster open innovation for sustainable economic development, and use ICTs as enabling tools for poverty reduction. Open IT@giz focuses on providing advanced IT training and building regional peer-to-peer expert networks as part of Human Capacity Building of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. GIZ showcases ICT innovations at elearning Africa conference [OpenIT@giz]
“Quality, open innovation and the GC21 E-Academy” – these themes have been at the core of GIZ’s engagement at eLearning Africa, the continents largest conference on ICT for development, education and training. The ‘Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)’ reached out to the more than 1700 participants from all over the world gathering in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from May 25 to 27.

Africa and Europe join forces in Training on Free Technology [it@inwent]
More networking of African IT specialists with Europe and joint building of advanced training materials – this is what a new partnership of FOSSFA's and GIZ’s ict@innovation programme with the Europe-wide ‘Free Technology Academy’ (FTA) is all about. The Free Technology Academy (FTA), financially supported by the Life Long Learning programme (LLP) of the European Commission, is a collaboration between the Netherlands-based Free Knowledge Institute and three European universities.

Asia Source 3 meeting reinforces Asian Free and Open Source Software movement [it@inwent]
- 150 representatives from Asian NGOs and SMEs gather for open source camp
- Open source advocates discuss tools, business models, and communities
- Theme of Asia Source 3: Building Capacities and Empowering Humanity through FOSS
While most technology conferences happen as swanky, slick, and well-rehearsed events, the recently concluded Asia Source 3 took the opposite track and ran a camp that was spartan yet spontaneous. From November 7 to 12, 2009, Asia Source 3 gathered 150 representatives from all over Asia in the Philippines to discuss developments in open source. For those six days, the campers lived in a communal environment that married fun and relaxation with exchange of ideas.
