There were plenty of goals being scored in the Brooklyn this year, home of Fontbonne Hall’s Katie Henderson, Brooklyn Tech’s Niri Halperin and Leon Goldstein’s Pamela Wishart.

Brooklyn again proved it’s no slouch when it comes to soccer talent. Fontbonne won its sixth CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens title in the last seven years, beating Bishop Kearney, which upset Christ the King in the semifinals.

Goldstein had the best season in program history, winning its first ever PSAL Brooklyn A-III title and nearly beating Manhattan standout Bard in the semifinals. New Utrecht won its first ever PSAL Class B soccer title and Sheepshead Bay and Lafayette both made the semifinals.

All-Brooklyn girls soccer Player of the Year: Pamela Wishart, Leon Goldstein

The Goldstein sophomore was nothing short of a phenom on the pitch this season. Wishart scored an amazing 32 goals and dished out four assists to help lead the Dolphins to their best record, 11-3, ever and their first PSAL Brooklyn A-III crown. Bard coach Chris Lanza called her the fastest player he’s even seen on a soccer field. It was that speed and control of the ball on the move that set Wishart apart. It gave her the ability to outrun most back lines. A defender for Albertson Fury club team, she has one of the city’s strongest legs, something that allows her to strike from any where, any time.

All-Brooklyn girls soccer Coach of the Year: Victor Popovsky, Fontbonne Hall/Sheepshead Bay

Popovsky is in the rare situation of coaching both a CHSAA and PSAL squad and did so with great success. His most impressive job came at Sheepshead Bay in his second year. The Sharks won just one game the last two seasons as a Class A team, but excelled after moving down. They placed third in Brooklyn B-VII and earned a trip to the semifinals, beating top-seeded Frank Sinatra before falling to eventual champion New Utrecht . His Bonnies squad finished unbeaten in CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens and won its sixth title in seven years.

First Team

M Pamela Chernyakhovsky, Leon Goldstein

The junior formed quite a duo with Pamela Wishart. The Dolphins offense ran through Chernyakhovsky in many ways. She could send out pinpoint crosses and through balls and took the majority of Goldstein’s corner kicks, which she had a knack for bending into the goal. Her accurate leg helped her score 11 goals and dish out 11 assists.

M Shannon Fahy, Bishop Kearney

The senior saved one of her best performances for when her team needed it most. Fahy scored twice, including the overtime winner, against Christ the King in the semifinals. She was a steady presence at midfield for the Tigers, helping distribute the ball out to Kate and Emily Mason. Fahy was dangerous from 20 yards and out.
