It was a season of perfection, returns to greatness and plenty of goal scoring.

Riverdale went unbeaten for the first time ever and won its first NYSAISAA title since 2007. Beacon didn’t lose a PSAL game, did not allow a goal in the postseason and regained the PSAL city title after last winning in the spring of 2008. Along the way there were some amazing goal totals. Petrides senior Amanda Feldstein tallied 42 and Goldstein sophomore Pamela Wishart had 32. They are just two of the fantastic players who graced the pitch this season.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR : Amanda Feldstein, Petrides

No Petrides player had a finer season than what Feldstein was able to accomplish in 2010. The senior not only had the best year in program history, she led the Panthers to their best season ever, too.

“It’s was like a culmination,” Petrides coach Kim Caccese said. “It all came to a head.”

Feldstein led the city in goals with an astounding 42. She scored twice in a 3-0 PSAL Class A quarterfinal win over Francis Lewis to give her 100 goals for her career, the most by any player in program history. The win earned Petrides its first-ever semifinals appearance and capped a year where the Panthers posted a program-best record of 12-2-1 and earned their first win over rival McKee/Staten Island Tech.

“Our team this year is probably the best it’s ever been,” Feldstein said.

She could strike at any moment and from anywhere and had a tremendous chemistry with midfielder Katrina Wiesner. Feldstein had a leg big enough to score from tough angles from 35 yards out and the speed to outrun defenses. Her biggest contribution may be her leadership and the example she set for her teammates. “She just epitomized overall the type of player you hope every player is able to become,” Caccese said.

COACH OF THE YEAR : Orlando Osorio, Riverdale

Osorio called his year’s Riverdale squad a “dream team.” After an injury-plagued campaign last season the senior-laden Falcons felt they could make a run at a NYSAISAA title.

“I knew they could do wonderful things, but I never thought they could go this far,” he said.

With a team he helped mold and improve each year, Riverdale put together the best season in program history with a 17-0-2 record. The Falcons allowed more than one goal just twice and posted their first-ever unbeaten Ivy League title. They dominated the NYSAISAA tournament, including a 5-0 win over second-seeded and previously unbeaten Staten Island Academy in the final for their first title since 2007.

“Having a team with this much skill, I don’t know how long it will take [to rebuild],” Osorio said. “This is very momentous.”
