Best (non-ost) version of Dancing Mad?

I really like this song.

The versions on the FF Guarvail doujin and first Black Mages album top my list

virt's.

Yeah, despite having nothing to do with the fourth section. Which is actually kinda cool, since that's the meat of most arranges.

Speaking of which...the ones from Hellion, Guarvail and Akineko all offer something to make them more than compelling. Crow's Claw's version is kind of interesting, even if the original is hard to pick out (don't think it has the fourth section in it either).

Never been a fan of the Black Mages one, especially the second section (*hiccup*). Despite being "just" fan arranges, the ones I just mentioned even sound better than that one (which is something, considering Hellion, Guarvail and Akineko don't have live guitars on theirs).

2nd'd.  That album features a slick version of "Theme of Tina" too.

Merry Christmas. Here are all the doujin Dancing Mad arranges I have on my HD. If there's more out there, I don't have them. Enjoy. The virt one isn't in there, but it's easy to find online (OCR, I believe).

I don't care for the Black Mages version either... those guitars don't really enhance the experience that is Dancing Mad; the remake of Seymour's battle theme is another hiccup in my book, sounds so close to the OST version.

virt's tracks aren't available on Overclocked, but you can find most of them on his site here.

I'm not a big fan of the Doujin arranges, and I wasn't that into the Black Mages version either. For me, the OST version is the best there is to date.

I'd really like to see Square Enix go back and do something AWESOME with this song. It's worthy of more attention than One-Winged Angel has received.

I'd pretty much say the same thing for OWA...I don't think they've come close to matching the original with the Reunion, Advent Children or KH versions. The Reunion version, I thought, was especially weak and didn't transfer from the OST to live orchestra well at all.

This doesn't help anyone, but a few months ago one of the seniors from my old high school performed the first two sections of Dancing Mad live on a church organ.

To date this remains the only truly religious experience I've had.

Agreed, although I enjoy the BM version more than other people here. Jason, any reason why you're excluding the OST version from your question?

Emerson, Lake & Palmer's (the 4th part only).

I think about what it *could* sound like if arranged properly, (I can hear in my head) so I wonder if it has been done.

Oh, alright. Makes total sense. That .rar GX posted should have some goodies for you then.

What is FF Guarvail doujin?

Er, a rock album by a fan group that is full of arrangements of Final Fantasy songs.

Better question: Where did "Guarvail" come from?
