Over the next month, The Post will bring you into the world of Mary Louis and Positive Direction rising senior guard Reana Mohamed as she begins the final stage of her college search playing in front of hundreds of coaches during the live recruiting period. This is entry No. 3 of 5 that will appear. The others are slated for July 26 and August 1.
The Nike Summer Showcase wasn't as great as the Penn State tournament. We hit some bumps in our journey to success but we played hard and left it all on the floor.
We finished 3-3 and lost by three points in our last game Friday. All three losses that we faced were winnable games, but we realized that we can't underestimate teams and we can't get comfortable with our lead when we are up, because the game's not over until the buzzer goes off.
As a team we are growing more and more each day we play with each other. I feel that if we play hard every minute and not take plays off at any point we will be able to accomplish anything. Some players that stood out this tournament included Jasmine Nwajei, Emily Arias, Elisabeth Gully and Kristen Podlivits. Overall mostly everyone helps contribute to the game.
For myself, I felt I showed more leadership and was more vocal when I knew my team needed it. As far as playing, I learned that sometimes I will not always be able to drive to the basket because girls are stepping in to take charges, so that means I have to pull up for a midrange jumper. That is something that I need to notice during the game and knock down that shot as if it were a regular layup.
The trip was full of laughter, but a funny moment was Jasmine singing "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" during our car ride to the game early in the morning. It was probably the funniest thing I have ever heard.
Our next stop will be New Orleans and we know we will have to put our best foot forward each and every game if we want to win out there.
