Yankees call up Golson to replace A-Rod

10:07 AM, July 14, 2011 ι By GEORGE A. KING III

Speedy outfielder Greg Golson will take Alex Rodriguez’s spot on the Yankees roster.

Golson will be activated in time for Thursday night’s second-half opener against the Blue Jays. Rodriguez underwent surgery Monday to repair a torn meniscus in his knee and is expected to miss four to six weeks.

In 61 games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre this season, Golson hit .295 with five home runs and 25 RBIs. Golson played in 31 games for the Yankees last year, often as a defensive replacement late in games, and went 6-for-30 at the plate.
