Troops Conduct Airborne Operations Exercise on Fort Bragg, N.C.
Army paratroopers prepare to board a C-17 Globemaster III aircraft before a personnel airdrop mission in support of the joint operations access exercise on Fort Bragg, N.C., June 26, 2011. The soldiers are assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division's 1st Brigade Combat Team. JOAX is a joint airdrop exercise designed to enhance service cohesiveness between U.S. Army and Air Force personnel, allowing both services an opportunity to properly execute large-scale heavy equipment and troop movement.

Air National Guard Engineers Build School, Clinics in Suriname

Panetta Begins Role as Defense Secretary
Marine Corps Lt. Gen. John Kelly, senior military assistant, greets Leon E. Panetta as he arrives at the Pentagon, July 1, 2011, for his first day on the job as the nation's 23rd defense secretary. After arriving, Panetta took the oath of office from Defense Department General Counsel Jeh Johnson. Panetta then met with senior staff, had lunch with Navy Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and attended a meeting in "The Tank" with the Joint Chiefs.
