KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. – Teyvon Myers’ summer is already off to a better start than the winter, spring and fall. He played an integral role in New Heights’ title in the Adidas Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind., and helped the AAU program get off to a 2-0 start on Monday in the Hoop Group's Summer Classic East.

Myers, a burgeoning star in the city, lost two uncles, Gavin George Myers and Damion (Shaka) Allen, and battled inconsistent playing time along with academic issues. His mother, Juliann Gayle, just recently moved to California, and he plans to attend prep school and reclassify into the Class of 2014.

Myers left the Metrohawks for New Heights after his good friend, Boys & Girls rising junior Wesley Myers (no relation), moved on to the New York Panthers amid a coaching shakeup.

“I like it better here,” the talented 6-foot-3 shooting guard said of New Heights. “They care more about the kids than the program.”

Canty sets visits: Kareem Canty, the highly ranked point guard from Harlem who recently opened up his recruiting, said he has scheduled visits to Miami and Florida State. Xavier and Seton Hall, who were in his initial top four, remain involved. Washington has joined the fray for the 6-foot-1, playmaking point guard and offered while Baylor and UCLA are interested.

Canty, Scout.com’s ninth-ranked point guard in the Class of 2012, has made headway on where he will play in the fall. He said he is likely to attend South Kent (Conn.) over Brewster Academy (N.H.) because it is closer to home and he has developed a bond with South Kent coach Kelvin Jefferson. He spent last year at Bridgton Academy in Maine.

Notes: Former Rice forward Richard Council will either do a postgraduate year at The Hun School (N.J.) or commit to either Coastal Carolina or Monmouth. Neither program has offered yet, but Council did visit Monmouth two weeks ago and worked out with the team. He will travel with the New York Gauchos the rest of the month and play in the West Virginia Jam Fest, Super Showcase and AAU Nationals in Orlando, Fla., to hopefully land an offer. … Despite reports, New Heights’ heavily recruited power forward Jordan Washington has yet to commit to NIA Prep (N.J.), he said. The burly forward said he could return to Pathways, which he led to the PSAL Class B crown last winter. … New Heights rising junior Nassir Williams will transfer to Cardinal Hayes, athletic director Kimani Young said. Williams was at since-closed Rice.
