The cream of the Devils' latest draft class is off to an inauspicious, injured start.

In less than 24 hours, prize first-rounder Adam Larsson joined the Devils' second pick, Blake Coleman, on the shelf with injuries suffered in rookie camp.

The Devils took Larsson out of yesterday's scrimmage following the second period, after he suffered a left thigh bruise from an opening-shift knee.

"I pretended like I'm a tough guy. It doesn't work," said Larsson, taken fourth overall by the Devils in June.

"I don't want to rush anything. It's too early in the season," Larsson said. "I think it was the smart decision. The first thing was not to get injured.

"It feels OK. Hopefully I'll be able to skate [today]."

Coleman, the Devils' third-round pick and USHL scoring champ, was knocked out of camp with a bone chip in his right ankle after blocking a shot on Tuesday.

In addition, Basking Ridge-native Matt Killian is out of action with a shoulder sprain.
