A copycat starred early today in Act II of "Vandalism at Dave Letterman's Theater."

Only four days after struggling actor James Whittemore managed to break into the Ed Sullivan Theater at Broadway and 53rd Street, another man, Alvin Moore, 42, gave it his best shot, a police source said.

"He didn't get in," a security guard told The Post. "He was just smacking the door."

Moore hit the glass door so hard, however, that cops took him to St. Luke's Hospital with a bloodied head.

He told cops, "I wanted the attention," law enforcement sources said. He also said he was angry at Letterman, but unclear why, sources said.

Law enforcement sources said he caused over $500 in property damage after tossing a newspaper box through the main doors.

Moore, of Sebring, Fl., was charged with criminal mischief, menacing and burglary for use of a dangerous insturment.

He has two prior New York arrests for unlicensed operation of a vehicle and harassment, police sources said.
